Europe loads 2 1/2" and 2 3/4" shells for 16 gauge shotgun as standard and the US only loads 2 3/4" shells. If your shotgun chambers the 2 3/4" shells it should be OK. You can measure the chamber and see if it measures 2 3/4". You can also check your barrel for and bulges in it by looking down the barrel with a bore light shinning down the other end. A bulge should be able to be seen with the eye. If your gun has any bulge, do not fire it again. You will need a new barrel. But It should be OK and I would not expect their to be any bulges.

In general, a 1950s Sweet Sixteen is a valuable gun. Measure the distance from the trigger
to the end of the **** stock to get the "legnth of pull" (LOP). this
was 14 1/14 " when it left the factory. If it is shorter, the value
will be less.
Without seeing it, although many have been altered which would bring a price $350 - $450 area.
This guide might help if you can determine the condition : OS is 1958.

Try searching for a gun appraiser on the internet. Most will tell you that they need you to bring the gun in so that they can see it b efore they can give you a value. You might be able to locate one that will ball park it without seeing the weapon.
Hope this helps?
