We had a power surge from the campground electrical hookup. Now our usually quiet ac in the rv is running very noisy. What could cause this?

A power surge can trash the motor inside the compressor and the inside fan motor. Now comes the question will the repairs cost less than a whole new unit?

A sudden surge of power can cause the compressor to start running backwards. Turn machine off for 5 seconds then back on. May have to wait for tstat time delay but should be ok.

When RV is plugged-in a loud humming accures nothing to do with air conditioner. Normal?

A solenoid (magnetic contactor), a motor, or wires can produce chattering sound. I think most likely you hear a solenoid that transfers the RV load from one source to another. A manual transfer switch would be quiet.
Electric alternating current solenoids have laminations that can loosen from each other thru vibration and aging, becoming noisy, and are noramly buzzing when energyzed even when new.

Should ele and gas work to gether onwater heate .dont now if we used water or gas.or bouth

Some RV water heaters are both gas and electric, depending on what hookup is available at campground.
Otherwise, water heaters are electric or gas.

Gas water heaters have a 3" to 4" round vent pipe located on top.
Electric water heaters have electric wire connected on top or side of heater, but no vent pipe.

I have a issue with my 2 Dometic DuoTherm air conditioners. The rv is a 2014 Palamuno Saber 50 amp fifthwheel. Ok. They cool very well but at different random times the compressor shuts off while the fan...

how long a power cord do you have and what size conductors are in it. when a a/c shuts down do to thermostat reaching its setting then trys to start back up shortly the pressures dont have time to equalize resulting in high amp draw. if fans runs all the time instead of shutting off with compresser it will call for cooling fast. i have a 2003 cardinal with 2 a/c's the smaller one has a continous fan & the larger one cycles fan with compressor. i have power cord rated for 50 amps. 110 to 115 is still a low vooltage condition.

I have duo therm rooftop Ac unit, was working fine and just went out. Seems like it is not getting power, I checked breaker and fuses. Still not working. What do i do next ?

First of all are you plugged in at a rv park or home? Had ours do that as well, found the electrical source in rv park was defective. Caused our AC unit to cut in and out then wouldn't run at all. Moved to a new location and the ac was fine.

1989 damon escaper ultrasport, at full hookup site A/C working fine until it just shut off. At that moment I was programming fridge because it wasn't cooling. Might be irrevelant but fridge now...

Your AC (air conditioner) would only run on AC (alternating current - shore power) so there would be a circuit breaker. Fuses are for DC (direct current - batteries).

That said, 16A is a very odd number for a circuit breaker (or fuse).

Your AC will only run if you are connected to shore power or have a generator. (Very large inverter and a lot of house batteries is technically possible but very unlikely and it wouldn't have been built that way).

If your AC actually draws 16A then being connected to a 30A outlet is fine, I have actually connected mine to a 20A outlet at home to test it but I made sure nothing else was turned on fridge, heaters, water heater etc).

How many Watts will 1350 btu RV roof model use? I have a Dometic 641815 model . I want to buy this Yamaha 2400 watt generator.

Hello, I have the same exact generator, 2400 Yamaha. It works fine for my Ac, and then some. After it first kicks on, is the biggest surge. Then I have even after ac is running, I have had tv on and even used microwave. But as far as running you ac on your rv , not problem. I do it all the time. Mine is ulta quite, and 8 to ten hours run time on about a gallon of fuel. Mike

What size circuit breaker is on the generator that is tripping? You'll need a 20amp for AC alone, then consider other things that are drawing current when RV plugged in like , converter, fridge etc that may be drawing current at same time. Make sure fridge is on propane, as well as water heater if you have electric element option on water heater. AC may only draw 12-15 amps when running if good and clean and wired properly, but will draw 17-18 amps when compressor kicks in. Perhaps generator not designed for that surge?

We have a dometic frig in our RV that runs on either electric or gas. Can I run it on gas while driving to the campground or do I just turn it off until we arrive?

The dometic is designed to run down the road in the gas mode, but NEVER fill you LP tank with you unit switched on, in either the gas or AC mode. Make sure you shut everything down before filling the tank!
