Question about Computers & Internet

I have a hp pavillion dv2315nr laptop with a black screen. In the past, I was always able to resolve the issue by pressing fn/f4 at start up which worked but takes a long time to kick in. Now however pressing fn/f4 ain't working anymore, and I got his permanent black screen with all the lcd lights on...but no display.

Hi I have a problem of black screen with my hp pavilion dv400. Wheen I start my computer I can windows logo on the screen but just 1 or 2 second and the screen go black. But when I connect my computer...

Your laptop is probably outputting the video signal to the wrong monitor. When the screen goes black, try pressing the function key to switch the video back to the laptop screen. Refer to your laptop's manual on what key to press. Usually it is the Fn key and F4 at the same time for HP laptops.

How to use F1, F2 ?..Function buttons on Hp laptop.

For those who do not know how to use the F1, F2, F3..... buttons on HP laptops, here is an opportunity for you to know.

We see these buttons on most laptops but don't know what they are used for. F1, F2....... buttons are the first set of buttons on the keyboard. These buttons makes it easy for anyone to access some programs on the computer without using mouse.

Follow the below procedures on how to use some of these functions:

To put your HP laptop on sleep mode, Press and hold Fn button on your keyboard, (without leaving it) then press F5 (Fn + F4).

To lock your HP laptop, Press and hold, Fn button, then press F6 (Fn + F6).

To reduce the brightness of your HP laptop, press and hold Fn button, then press F7 (Fn + F7).

To increase the brightness of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F8 (Fn + F8).

To put your laptop on mute, Press and hold Fn button, then press F9 (Fn + F8).

To reduce the volume of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F11 (Fn + F11).

To increase the volume of your HP laptop, Press and hold Fn button, then press F12 (Fn + F12).

To shut down your laptop or to view other shut down options, Press and hold Alt button, then press F4 (Alt + F4). Note that this particular function can be used on all computers and laptops.

To close any page on your HP laptop, Press and hold Alt button, then press F4 (Alt + F4). Note that this particular function can be used on all computers and laptops.

Good luck.

When i connect my notebook to LCD TV with hdmi port, screen goes black but on TV "No signal" message appear and can`t view the monitor on TV. I have windows XP sp3 on the netbook HP 425

From page 47 of the user manual for the HP 425, "Press fn+f4 to switch the image between the display devices connected to the computer."

Press and hold the "fn" key on the keyboard of the laptop while pressing the F4 key to toggle the image between the laptop screen and the external monitor.

Thanks for using FixYa

Laptop comes on but screen is black/blank

If you don't see anything at all and it has not been dropped or banged it maybe something as simple as the Video out selection. Look at the keyboard and locate the [FN] and the [F4](Actually look for the key with a small video screen on it which is usually the F4 on HP machines). After turning the computer on press and hold the [FN] key then press the [F4] Key. There are 3 modes programmed into the video selection. Computer monitor, Computer monitor and External Display and External Display only. What happens a lot of the time is someone may have accidentally pressed this combination of keys and the video is actually redirected to the external monitor only option. If this does not help and you can connect the computer to an external monitor and use that key combination to get the output to that screen then the problem is most likely the Back light for the monitor of the screen itself. Both can be replaced. HP can provide the back light part at a reasonable price. For the screen itself I recommend you go to someplace like E-Bay and purchase the replacement. Make sure you look at the sellers past record so you don't get taken. I DO NOT recommend using Craig's List for anything.

No screen display on HP Pavillion laptop. Assume it's in hibernation &/or standby mode. Occasionally flashes on momentarily. Computer seems to be booted up. Tried rebooting, disconnecting. Manual says...

Well, "average dumb user" might apply here because there IS an "FN" button: it is located in the lower left corner of your keyboard just left of the START button [that's the one with the windows logo on it]. If you'll notice there is a border around that "FN" ... if the obvious escapes you, then look at all the other keys that have a box border around them and when you press FN with any of those keys, you'll get the action the key picture describes.

The screen is black on start up. No image at all.

The dv1000's were a limited edition notebook withmany issues. the motherboard going on them was one of them. connect the motebook to a desktop monitor if you have one and simultaneously press Fn + F4 to use the monitor as a screen. If nothing happens begin crying. Time to buy a new laptop. You information is safe but you need an IDE/SATA PCI adapter to view the files on another computer. If you were using XP, i hope you didn't password protect it making it private. That will be problem number 2.

VGA Port:
b1eb548.jpg

Connect here a stardard Monitor to see if you have image.
But you have to press the combination of FN+F4 to alternate between Laptop LCD and External Monitor.

Anyway at starup you can see if you have any image when the BIOS starts...

FN - is in the lower left side of your keyboard, next to CRTL.
