The best reproduced manuals are at Stereomanuals.com as this is where I get mine from. Why do you need such a drawing? I will look as what I have here. The mechanical drawing might help and it might not. If they- whom ever fixed it lost parts they did you a dis-service. Now a spare unit will be needed to get parts from.

I have a Tascam 688 mini studio, its 8 tracks on a cassette tape, I have just replaced the capstan belt and now the tape speed is way too fast even when I'm in variable mode with the speed turned all the...

It is possible the control transistor in the capstan motor has shorted due to age. There is a control in the deck for calibration of speed but then you need equipment and a MXT111 test tape to set the speed. So you may need a new Capstan motor or maybe just an adjustment- hard to say exactly without me looking at it- yes, I still fix them. I have been doing them for about 45 years and I worked at Teac as a Lead Tech in Arlington Heights IL.

Capstan motor does not turn. In the manual there's no schematic of the capstan motor drive circuit. Where can I get one?

Send me a model number and a request by regular E mail to skywavebe@sbcglobal.net and I will see what I have but in many cases depending on what you are working with the motor may need replacing.

I have a Tascam DA-30 which ejects the tape

Many different things could sause a problem, belts, mode switch, capacitors in capstan or head motor drive circuit. Hard to say what exactly is wrong with the machine without looking at it.

Tascam 424 MKII - ate a tape and buttons dont' work. Heads seemed locked.

Hi rob

The machine has idler assemblies that provide drive to the "takeup reelbase" When this drive fails, the tape is not gathered up into the cassette, but rather wraps around on itself on the capstan spindle and pinch roller. The mechanism will not release until the tape has been extracted from about the capstan spindle. This can require all sorts of ingenuity to acheive with pout damaging or bending transport parts. The tape may not be recoverable. The deck will require an overhaul to the transport belt and idler drives to get it back to decent working order again. If you could get it to me, cost you about $75 to overhaul it If you are not in Brisbane Australia, then you may have to locate someone near to you.
I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, please get back to me here, or use the ASK function to go straight to me :) If you are still unsure, have problems, or we need to look at the situation more deeply, then before you give a rating for this advice, hit the ASK button Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Sunsui cassete deck D-79R

It will have a dry bearing in the transport. Probably the capstan motor or the capstan flywheel. A drop(one) of 3 in 1 oil carefully applied to the bearing(dont get it on any belts or pulley drive surfaces) may help The rear bearing of the motor is harder to get to, but generally not the culprit. If you dont have a small oiler syringe to do this You may have to pull the motor assembly out, or the capstan flywheel retainer plate, and then remove the flywheel completely to do this. Clean the capstan shaft, belts and pulley drive surfaces while you have it pulled down with acetone. Good luck, feel free to follow up here with me if it gets ugly. :)

Deck turns on but doesn't do anything else. Motor runs.

The main flat belt you describe is probably the capstan belt. The "flywheel" you describe drives the capstan. I don't know the model number of your deck (it would help if you could say what it is), but I'm pretty sure that the flat belt should go around the big flywheel and then around a motor pulley that should be very close to the flywheel. The motor should spin the flywheel even if the play/FF/RW buttons are not engaged. This might sound funny, but the other "O" ring belts might be very important (control motor belts) or not that important at all (tape counter belts)--it depends on the model number of the deck. One more thing: Every healthy capstan belt I've ever seen is NOT sticky and does NOT glom onto itself. That belt sounds like it is very old and needs to be replaced.
