I cannot get my Poulan riding lawn mower to go into gear. What am I doing wrong?

Check your drive belt underneath the engine (on a crankshaft pulley) and make sure it is connected to the drive pulley on the transaxle (this area is under and probably just behind the seat. Don't confuse this drive belt with the belt that runs the blade mandrells on top of the cutting deck.

The mower blade drive belt on my Poulan Pro 16.5 HP, 42", model #310777 broke. The only manual I could find was for a model 60614 which was of very little value to me. The parts store sold me a Gates...

The only thing I can suggest to get you in the ballpark of what is wrong or if you can replace what you need replaced is to look on the Poulan website and get a customer service phone number. Chances are they will know exactly what you need. Hardware stores are too broad and it sounds like you need specilized attention.

You have to hold the mower blade engagement lever, which engages the mower blades to turn.Poulan model PXT12530

sounds like the belt is stretched, check the belt or get a smaller belt, doesnt take but a quarter inch to effect engagement

1 Answer

Poulan mower throwing the belt.

1) Remove the cover on the top of the belt and
remove the belt from the transmission pulley

2) Lean the mower back on its handle and secure it
with whatever you have that will keep it there while
you work on it, any heavy object will do

3) Remove the blade bolt, the blade, the blade
adapter and the plastic belt guard from the bottom
You should now be able to remove the belt

4) While you have the belt off, closely inspect the
pulley on the engine shaft, they sometimes get
grass built up in the groove and this will cause
the belt to run off and also wear prematurely.

Hope this helps you out

Chuck
