SOURCE: kitchenaid no water, but ice
first thing i would check here is my water resivoir, on these models it has a tendency to freeze,, hit the tank and upper line with a hair dryer for several minutes then give the water a try....
barring that it may be time to change your water filter even if the sensor has not picked it up yet

If this is a newer model GE side by side refrigerator, this is not uncommon. what you can do to check to see what is going wrong, remove the toe plate at the bottom front of the unit. Under the freezer door, you will see a white plastic water line, with an inline connector about 4-5" from where the line comes out the bottom of the door. this is normally a blue push-in type connector. On this connector, you will see two white sleeves on either side, push in on this sleeve while pulling the corresponding water line section out of the connector, if you squeeze the sleeve enough, the water line will slip right out. Place a towel on the floor, make sure both ends are on top of towel. Now, breifly actuate your water dispenser trigger, see if water comes out the exposed water line. If water comes out, your entire water dispenser system is OK, but, the water line in the freezer door is frozen, in which case the only way to melt it, is to turn the unit off, open the freezer door, and blow a fan for a few hours, to melt the ice INSIDE the door. You could also buy a new door, but that is very costly.
If no water comes out the exposed water line, then either your water filter is clogged, or you have a bad water valve solenoid

Hello and sorry to hear about your problem.
90% of the time you will have 2 issues, the water lever switch has failed or the main water inlet valve has failed. I suggest you call a service company.

Hi Steve Garner - There are a couple of factors that can cause a side by side dispenser to dispense water by itself. The refrigerator could possibly have a faulty valve, dispenser control board and/or failed water valve diode. Generally it is a good idea to have a professional take a look at it to get to the root cause. Cost of parts and technical expertise entailed in these types of replacements can be a bit tricky.
