Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

LG 55LH90-UB LED TV I have an LG 55LH90-UB LED tv that has, what seems to be, sections of dim areas.

Hi ,
try swapping the screen with another one to just see if it is behaving the same, because some times the screen circuitry or the led screen could be damaged .

good luck buddy

Why LCD TV have No Picture only sound

Flat-panel LCD TVs have a lifespan newly approaching 100,000 hours on average. The lifespan of an LCD TV is generally longer than that of similar-sized plasma televisions. Some manufacturers even claim that their LCDs can last upwards of 100,000 hours when used continuously under controlled conditions (e.g., in a room with "standard" lighting conditions and 77&deg; temperatures throughout). Just how realistic such claims are is debatable. After all, whose living room has no windows and remains at a perfectly comfortable 77 degrees year-round? <br /> In any case, the pictures on fluorescent backlit LCD TVs will show some "wear" because they are generated by powerful lamps, which, like any lighting appliance, will dim over time and with use. The picture you see will dim ever so slightly as the backlighting bulbs dim. One other consideration is that CFL fluorescent backlighting will change colors over time. This will change the white balance on your TV and cause color calibrations to be thrown off. <br /> Therefore, the most important thing to consider when it comes to the lifespan of your LCD TV is the actual lifespan of the light source in your LCD. LCD TVs last as long as their lightsources do. So, the lightsource in your LCD TV is the critical component of your LCD display unit. Newly introduced LED backlit LCD TVs will have the best long term performance. LED backlighting is superior in that the white balance of the TV will not be affected by changing bulb color over time. It's a more consistent bulb technology and will also maintain its brightness longer. <br /> The edge lit version of LED TVs will use far less energy while local dimming LED backlighting will be more accurate and present a better picture while using more power. We believe that local dimming LED backlighting will be slightly less stable from a life span standpoint. <br /> To ensure the integrity of your lightsource for the duration of your LCD display's lifespan, you will definitely want to adjust the CONTRAST setting of your LCD TV. Too high of a CONTRAST level will prematurely age your lightsource because it will have to work harder to maintain such light intensities. Your best bet is to keep your CONTRAST set appropriately for the conditions under which your view your LCD display. Brighter ambient light levels require slightly higher CONTRAST levels, while lower ambient light levels demand less CONTRAST <br /> If there is sound but no picture, only sound it has more chances of faulty back light repairable from Service Support. <br /> Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution. <br />

I have a 50 inch Toshiba 50L4300U that has no picture but has sound. What board do I replace?

Do this test first. With the TV on normally, shine a flashlight on the screen. look for a dim moving picture.
1) If you see one, the backlight led driver isn't working.
2) If you DON'T see a picture replace the T-Con board.

If you see a picture with the flashlight you can rule out the T-Con board. It's working. So the led driver board is the problem. TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy Go here for replacement parts.

My tv picture is very dim. have tried all the picture settings and nothing changes. Is it time for new tv?

Did you try brightness or sports mode. If so, check manufactures website. If TV is LCD and over 10 years I would replace with LED Tv.

Should I fix my TV or buy anew one?

Before you buy a new TV go through all the TV menu options to see if it has automatic dimming depending on the amount of light in the room. If it does it may be malfunctioning and turning that feature off may fix the problem.

Sounds like fluorescent tube has gone, but you say this is LED? Newer tvs are LED. What you have, may be LCD, in which fluorescent tubes were used. You have no recourse.

I have a 42 that has begin to strobe. it is like the back light problem but instead of just losing picture all the way it just strobes on and off real fast. when you first put on game where backlight is...

First, try setting all display settings to default or 'normal' or 'standard' and disable any picture processing functions. If your TV is LED backlit then the LED dimming function may not be working correctly (dimming is done by rapidly switching the LEDs on & off).
