Open Question

Quickbooks has encountered a problem and needs to close

I have been using QBs pro 2002 and reinstalled it recently on a new computer with out any problems for two weeks and now all of a sudden it gives me this error when I try to start it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it with no solution. I'm using xp pro. Is there a problem with my windows system? Any help would be great.

I get this popup that says Quickbooks has encountered a problem and needs to close. Now if I start the program holding down the control key then I get a popup that says the This file was not closed in the previous session, rolling back to the last recorde transaction. I can then click OK and use the program till it trys to open the Quickbooks web browser. I'm thinking windows updated my web browser. I uninstalled IE v8 and now I'm v5 with the same problem. I put my security level to low. I have uninstalled and reinstalled quickbooks same problem. I might just have to upgrade to something else if I can import my data from my existing quickbooks. Thanks.

When I try to open QB I get the popup that says Quickbooks has encountered a problem and needs to close. If I hole the Control key I get the message that This file was not closed in the previous session. Rolling back to the last recorded transaction. I click OK and I can use the program till QB wants to open the Quickbooks web browser then I get the popup the QB encountered a problem and needs to close. I think windows updated my IE to v8 so I remove it and now back to v5, I have removed QB and reinstalled and still the same problem. I have change my security level to low. I'm thinking it's QBs way of getting people to upgrade. I would go to something else if I could import my existing data. Thanks.

New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Quickbooks .pdf problem

Dear Kcodik, if you have the setup you can simply reinstall. If you have the liscence you might like to download it again. If you dont have both you can simply make an invoice and convert the file format in pdf.

http://www.zamzar.com

You just upload the file and you'll receive a link your email for download. SImply download the converted file.

And yea its free as in freedom :)

Please press 'fixya' if that has helped you

SOURCE: Quickbooks error ~~ transfering files from 2003 to 2009

There may be more than one issue going on here. In some cases, going to a version that is several versions later requires a stepped upgrade. 2003 to 2004, 2004 to 2006, then to 2009. There may also be data damage existing in the 2003 file that will prevent an upgrade, until it is resolved in 2003.
Intuit used to have a policy that it would have you send in a copy of the data file and would convert it for free if you were going to the latest version.
If you are still unable to resolve this, let me know.

SOURCE: Quickbooks Pro 2008 Payroll problem

Same thing here when attempting to "send payroll data", though mine's with pro 2009. I found this KB item which indicated that I should update:

http://payroll.intuit.com/support/kb/kbitem/1009052.html

I followed the update instructions here:

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/productupdates.aspx

Even though my update status was "nothing new" for each category, I hit the "Update Now" button anyway (it was enabled, why not?). It went through the motions of updating (even though there was nothing to update). When it finished, I closed and re-opened QB, then I was able to send the payroll data. This software is far from the gold standard I thought it was going to be.

SOURCE: error message " quickbooks has encountered a problem "

1. Do you have a backup of your quickbooks from before this started happening? If yes, try opening the backed up quickbooks file.

2. Uninstall Quickbooks 2009 completely, then reinstall it and check of updates and install all of them, then try it again.

If the problem persists, please let me know so I can continue to help you. These are the first two things to try and would be the easiest solution.

Thanks for using the FixYa forums!

SOURCE: Quickbooks Pro 2007- Not Responding

It's likely a problem with the PDF Converter provided by Intuit. Here are the instructions to fix the problem:

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/pages/knowledgebasearticle/1007856

If that does not fix your problem, take a look at turning User Account Controls either ON or OFF -

  1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Control Panel.
  2. Double-click User Accounts, and then click Turn User Account Control on or off. Click Continue if asked for permission to continue.
  3. Select the checkbox Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK. Close Control Panel.
  4. Restart your computer

Please let me know if this has been helpful or if there is anything else I can do. Thank you.

I can not open quickbooks. Windows encounters a problem and closes the window. I've tried repairing and even installing it again but nothing has fixed it.

I had the same problem about a year ago. Go to quicken website and download the free quickbooks edition called simple start and install that. That should give you the software you need to reinstall quickbooks. Don't know why that happens, but the important thing is to always back up your data.
See if that works, it did for me.

That is an "Old QB Software version" installed in to a "Newer Version of Windows" issue.

QB 2002 most likely works best with Win 98 or 2000.

For your best functioning on your PC, I would ONLY do QuickBooks entries when your PC has just been freshly turned on and no other programs have been running first. Also "Pause" or temporarily "Exit" any background running software like Win Defender and/or any Anti-virus programs. Call QuickBooks and ask them how you could go about Up Grading your QB version to a more Windows compatible version without having to purchase EACH version to "UPDATE" your pre-existing database/files so they are not lost or dysfunctional. They once sent me disks to jump 2 versions and they charged me less than 50 bucks but that was a few years back. Good Luck!

Sorry to tell you that you will need to upgrade. Quickbooks is only compatable with Vista in 2008 and up. Quckbooks is not doing anything to resolve older issues.

I am assuming that you are reffering to a sales tax check. There are a couple of ways it can be corrected.

One is to remove the cleared checkmark from the write check in the bank account register, delete the check, and create the new check using the Pay Sales tax, then mark the new check as cleared in the register to keep the reconcile correct. The other way is to delete the second check, as the PAP suggested, and do a sales tax liability adjustment.
Either way, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY..( did I mention I REALLY suggest) you make a backup of the data first!
That way, if things go wrong, you restore the backup and you are no worse off than you are right now.
