What coil is getting cold? In cooling the evaporator coil should be getting cold not the outdoor condensing coil. Verify you have the tstat setup for heat pump, verify you have a proper refrigerant charge.

Hello, if the pipe with insulation is luke warm then either the unit is empty of refrigerant due to leak or the compressor is not running at all. Start by going tje the outdoor unitnand checking if the compressor is running, if it is then the unit has no refrigerant, if the compressor is not running then either a bad capaitor orbthe compressor itself might be bad.

Check for the defrost unit working... There should be a periodic defrost cycle running to melt the frosted ice. If not, then the thermostat unit along with the timer and the heaters needs to be examined. Check for the drain channel for any blockage/clog... If there is some dust on the condenser coils, vacuum the coils to remove the dust/lint else ignore that too... Carefully diagnose the tripping of the thermostat/defroster unit as it seems to be faulty.

rotate the defrost heater timer until it clicks and see if the defrost heater is working

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.
