Hi Diane Lulloff, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
Very tall antenna does that mean rural location ?
Does a rural location mean you might have a mast head amplifier on the antenna ?
if you have a mast head amplifier does it work with the digital tv frequency ranges ?

SOURCE: The instructions for our DTA800

Hey boykinpierce,

The phrase "Smart Antenna" is often used to describe a multi-directional antenna or antenna array. These types of antennas are able to detect and automatically adjust to any changes in the TV signal strength you receive, and can generally be obtained through most major retailers. They primarily are used in areas where digital signals are weaker or somewhat inconsistent, and will attempt to optimize the signals they do receive before sending them to a TV or digital converter box.

Please keep in mind that while some DTV digital-to-analog converter boxes may have built-in Smart Antennas, this particular model (RCA DTA800) does not appear to have this feature.

If you're still not quite sure what to look for, please remember that you can always speak with a home theatre sales agent at your local Best Buy™ store for more information.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

SOURCE: Sansui HDLCD1908 not recieveing Digital channels

Go into the menu. Go to CHANNEL and press enter. Go to AUTO CH MEMORY and press enter. Press the right arrow on remote to change the signal type to AIR. Go down to AUTOMATIC SEARCH and press enter. Wait for it to finish on its own. You should have all the analog and digital channels you can get with the antenna setup you have connected to the tv.

SOURCE: displays weak or no signal

To get any HDTV to work this is what you have to do;
CHANNEL section
1) Connect your antenna cable which you have done.
2) Go into the menu to the source option and select AIR/ANTENNA since you are using an antenna.
3) In the menu you will have to SCAN in the stations. This auto program will find all available stations.
Now you can watch tv by selecting the station you want.
The new generation of HDTV is different from the old analog sets. These have to be set up to work.
Exact information can be found in your Users Manual.

I cannot get any tv stations from service search

i'm guessing you hooked up an inside rabbit-ear style antennae?

move it around

then do an auto scan again

it all varies upon your location of that antenna

sometimes an amplified antenna helps a bit as well to draw in those digital signals to your tv tuner card that is built-in on that flat screen TV

other times, in other areas, you'll probably have to get an external antenna mounted to the roof of your house or a tall metal pole that can be moved towards those signals

Deal with my t.v. telling me Iv got a weak or lost signal please?

Best to check if the antenna on the roof if you have one has not been dislodged. If antenna looks ok then try to rescan the channels through settings menu.

What antenna

If you cannot use a magnet mount antenna on the roof then a fiberglass antenna (top loaded) about 4 ft. tall mounted behind the cab on the bed rail. You can usually run the coax thru a rain drain hole in one corner of the bed. The antenna should be tall enough to where the top third of the antenna is above the roof. The taller the ant.is the better the SWR will tune.

U follow the tv owner manual instuctions for scanning for the DTV free over the air broadcasting by the tv stations signal yet.Do that first, still have a message weak or no signals.Buy a newly design Digital antenna or have a roof antenna already hook it up to the tv,follow the owner manual rescan it again will have all DTV free over the air broadcasting tv channels.

Can not get any digital channels

Digital TVs do require a fairly strong signal in order to operate properly. The fact that your set is displaying the "weak or no signal" message is proof that the incoming signal is below the required signal input level threshold.
A "rabbit ears" type of antenna would only work if you were right next to the broadcast transmitter. I assume that you have the rabbit ears fully extended and that you have tried slowly rotating it from one side to the other to see if you can get a signal lock. But seriously I doubt it.
You should check into either a set-top amplified antenna, or a larger roof or attic mounted antenna. Note: While the larger antenna should provide a much stronger (better) signal, they tend to be directional. You might have to put it on a rotator so that you can "steer" (aim) the antenna toward a particular signal. For most people, this is unrealistic due to the expense and complexity.
My recommendation is to get an amplified omni-directional set-top antenna designed to receive DTV signals

Tv comes on cannot get a picture nor sound. followed instructions in manual regarding source , enter , picture, enter , channel, enter.etc., I can get to the menus but nothing else. It is not on cable...

If you have an antenna, you are trying to receive off-the-air broadcasting. Remember that a couple of years ago the US switched to digital broadcasting and analog stations went off the air. Your TV does not have a digital tuner, so you need an digital-to-analog adapter if you want to receive anything.

The US government had a program before the switch to help pay for the adapters, but that's long past now. Radio Shack sells them as do other retailers, and you can find them online as well.

The adapter picks up the digital broadcasts and converts them to a channel 3 or 4 TV signal that the analog tuner in your TV can receive. Some models of converter also feature video and audio jacks so you can connect it as an AV source like a DVD player. Once you've hooked the antenna to the converter and the converter to the TV, you'll be able to watch your local channels again. Maybe, that is.

The trouble with digital broadcasting is that signal strength makes a huge difference in reception. With analog, a weak signal would still give you a fuzzy but watchable picture. A weak digital signal may not even be detected, or you might get a picture that breaks up (pixelation) or freezes on the screen. You don't say what kind of antenna you have, but unless you're in or very close to a large city or near the station's transmitter, simple rabbit-ears may not be enough. Many people found after getting an adapter that they needed a better antenna, even something on the roof. In some areas (valleys, remote areas, places surrounded by many tall buildings, for instance) people found they could never get any channels. If you do in fact have a digital converter already (you didn't mention one), this could be the reason you can't get anything.

Hope this helps you figure out what's wrong. Thanks for using Fixya!

Only picking up one digital channel

digital air signals are weak and fussy. They are easily lost by having trees or large buildings in the way too.
The best thing to do is install a long range roof top antenna and re program the set. Be sure to aim the antenna correctly. if you cannot use a roof top antenna you can try the indoor digital antennas, but less likely to work consistently

The words "weak signal" flashes on screen at different places and do not receive a picture.

seems like you are using an "off the air antenna" that receives weak signal, you may be too far from the station, go get a roof top amplifier antenna or subscribe to digital service from cable, satellite or at&t uverse. If you think your antenna is getting good signal, try to rescan your tv for available channel. Make sure your TV set up is correct, if you are using Off the air signal, your setting should be set at "Antenna or off the air", then rescan your TV. Normally on Satellite or cable box, you just watch it on video channel or component input, if you are using HDMI then tune to HDMI channel.
Check your connection to make sure they are making good contact. If you can post your set up, I can better solve your problem.
For a resource on "off the air" antenna, go to www.antennaweb.org for help.

My digital tv is now telling me i have no signal or a bad signal and to check my ariel. I am 65 and not able to do this what really is the problem. I hate digital

If you are using an antenna the signal is too weak to broadcast the tv station completely, it is asking you to move the antenna to get better reception, if you are using rabbit ears you can move the antenna pretty easy, if you are using an antenna that is on the roof it's not as easy, if this is the case you can go to an electronics store or Radio Shack and get an antenna booster it should help you
