Fuel tanks do not have drain plugs ,if you can't
siphon the gas you could use the vehicles own fuel pump to drain the tank . Find the fuel pump relay in the under hood fuse / relay box . Jumper where the relay plugs into it. Disconnect fuel line at the engine an drain into a gas cans .
The fuel pump is located inside of the gas tank. In order to change it, you must remove the gas tank and it pulls out through the top, a new fuel pump assembly slides in easily.
Dont forget to drain the gas before removing the tank, gas is heavy!
remove fuel filter install rubber holes to gas can cycle key to pump it should gravity feed from there. be sure to put some gas in glass jar to look for water or trash.
Olivia, You need a helpful mechanic/DIYer to get under the rear seat or trunk to locate the fuel tank sender unit. If you release the sender unit you will have ready access to the tank to drain it. Please make sure that if someone does it for you that you or they DO NOT use an electric drill powered pump because the fumes from the gas will be ignited by the drill!! If a garage does it or a good home mechanic they could use an air powered drill with a compressor which won't generate any sparks. The option is a hand operated pump of some sort, but please take care and disconnect the battery negative terminal before you start.
if it is posible for you to drain the the old gasoline out and refill the tank with fresh gasoline that would be great, but if you only have a1/4 tank and draining the tank is not posible fill your tank up with supreme gas not regular the better grade gas with the high octane will dilute the old gas and help burn off the gas when the car starts.if you have more then 1/2 a tank try to pump out the gas with a driil pump, you can buy these a your local hardware store insert hose in filler neck of the tank.you should also remove the spark plugs and with and oil can add 8 good pumps of the can of motor oil in the cylinders do not replace plugs **** with a freshly charged battery turn the engine over few time in 2 or 3 second intervals this will kleen any rust that would have built up on the cylinder walls and also lube up the cylinder wall so that at start up the cylinder wont be dry ,add a few more sqirts of oil between turnovers.Replace spark plug if old ones look bad put spark plug in and start her up its going to smoke a bit at firts **** it will stop after the oil that was put in the cylinders burns off,let the engine idle for 10-15 minutes before putting any strain on motor give it a chance to clean out cylinders burn a few tanks of gas and change gas filter it should be fine.
Your car, like most made in the last 20 years has an electric fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank. You have to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle to replace the pump. Luckily for you, your gas tank has a drain plug, so you can drain the gas out before you remove it. You may have to remove the rear half of the exhaust system for clearance. If you are still game, reply for more detailed info. Charlie
