SOURCE: makes a bad loose sound when mixing dough

My Breadmakers Hearth was making the same sound, so after taking it apart I found that it was only the Bread Pans "under paddle" that the machine reaches up and connects to to drive the Paddle. I wears loose and wobbles and starts to slip making that banging sound. You can either replace the Bread Pan or like I did INVERT the under paddle (requires removing the C-clamp washer) to extend the life of the Pan and use of the Hearth. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Breville BR1 breadmaker kneading blade replacement

Our BR1 has just expired (the seal on the pan died). I contacted Breville and they don't do spares any more for this machine. I had replaced the pan in 2004, and so we had a spare undamaged paddle. E-mail me on br1.5.lera@spamgourmet.com if you would like me to post it to you.

Kneading Paddle

All bread machines have a final "punch down" of the dough that lasts a few seconds before the final rise stage. When "punch down" is over that is when you can remove the dough ball, remove the paddle, set it aside and place the dough ball back in the pan. It usually helps to have your hands dusted with a little bit of flour.

How can I buy 1 spare swan SB1020 breadmaker kneading paddle (sb1020/02 ) online without phoning and how much are they?

Use your make + your model + your model number (omitting any dashes, slashes, or spaces) + the words KNEADING BLADE DOUGH PADDLE as your Internet search.

Example: For the Fredericks Home Bakery model KHB-178 enter your search as

FREDERICKS HOME BAKERY KHB178 KNEADING BLADE DOUGH PADDLE

Note: Breadmakers model numbers are usually located on the backside or bottom of the unit, either on a printed decal or raised plastic embossment, and usually followed by abbreviations such as mdl, mdl no, model, model no, type, style, art, art no, article no, cat, cat no or catalog no.

Unfortunately the lot number is not going to help you get the kneading paddle you desire.

While the machine is kneading it makes an awful grinding sound. It sounds like the paddle is not moving. If you lift the dough up the paddle moves freely.

It sounds like your belt is slipping. All bread machine operate off of an electric motor and drive belt and they do wear out.

check the underside of the basket. I have had problems with the lock washer, causing the wing nut to slip and not providing any turn to the shaft and paddle.

Hi, If this is the third time using it, it could be defective. Return it for service. If not under warranty, try a few things. 1) Make sure the pan is inserted in the machine correctly. 2) Make sure that the paddle is not sticking, or the sealed bearing on the bottom of the bread pan is not broken or frozen. (Take pan out and see if you can turn the paddle freely by hand). Or finally, the belt may be loose and slipping, especially when it takes more power to knead the dough the second time. Good luck...Hank

First time use. set machine to dough and pressed

Hi, Keep the bread pan out of the machine and start a kneading cycle. Look through the lid window and see if the motor shaft is turning. If no...then the belt fell off. If the motor spins, check to make sure the paddle spins freely. Keep pan out and turn paddle by hand. If no then the bearing is frozen. If that's ok..make sure you inserted the pan correctly into machine. If everything checks out then it's a faulty machine. Before you do anything send it out for warranty service. Usually it's warranted for a year. Hank

Hi,
It could be the belt is slipping or a loose gear. Take a look at the gear & belt assembly in the base of the machine. Also, make sure the sealed bearing in the bottom of the bread pan is not sticking. It should turn free by hand Hank

Can the kneading paddle be removed before baking?

Hi,
Yes you can remove the paddle before baking. The cuizinart has a buzzer that sounds when to take the paddle out

If you want to take the paddle out you should make sure your machine has a pause feature so you don't lose any rising time.

Take pan out of machine, empty dough into a bowl, remove paddle, squirt the shaft in the bread pan lightly with veg oil (prevents sticking) then return the dough after final kneading time and before final rise.
