Open Question

I have MJ Plus device. I changed the modem from the cable company's modem to.....

My own. The MJ Plus device was working with the first modem but, now it won't work and it keeps throwing me off line. I don't know what to think or do from here. Can anyone help me?

SOURCE: Telephone line noisy & faint.

Its probably comming from the wire plugged into between your modem and the wall.

Replace it with a new line and see if the hiss goes away.

on an arris modem, if the telephone light is solid, then there is dial tone coming into the modem. that means the problem is somewhere in the house wiring. check to make sure the phone line is plugged into line 1 on the back of the modem. next make sure it is plugged into the wall jack. if this is correct then you need the cable co to come out and troubleshoot your inside wiring. as a quick fix, you can plug your phone into the jack on the back of the modem labled line 1/2

Hello Friend,
If you didn't change anything in modem side, that means the modem is still connected to internet. in this case you can connect the modem to your computer via the Ethernet cable. with this cable you will not need to install anything on your computer, just plug the Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port and start browsing internet.
The only case when you will need the drivers is when you want to connect the modem to your PC via USB cable.

I am on auto refill and my magicJack quit working I use for my fax machine and do not get any dial tone. I have tried unplugging etc and still does not work, What is wrong?


Is your Magic Jack plugged into AC wall current with a Power Adapter?
If so, try powering the MJ directly off a USB port on a computer.
The MJ power adapter is prone to failure. On the MJ plus, there is a blue power light in the shape of a cross near the word "plus". That light should be illuminated when plugged into a USB port or a power adapter. If the light is out when using the power adapter, then the power adapter is dead. If the light is out either way, then the MJ is probably dead.

I HAVE THE NEW MAGIC JACK PLUS. WHEN I PLUG IT IN I GET A MESSAGE TO WAIT TO REGISTER. I HAVE WAITED OVER 1 HOUR. HOW MAY I REGISTER?


Waiting, 'time" will not resolve this issue. Its a common problem where the MJ isn't talking to their servers. i would check your internet connection to the device as a first step. Change ethernet cable, even if the one you're using has worked before. Weird things happen to cables, some unseen....its always easier to assume a cable is bad and replace it or if you know how, test it within your own network.
The other solution would be to check on what ports are open for the MJ through your router. Offhand I cannot remember what it requires, but it could be that the router is blocking the signal, so the MJ cannot find the servers it needs.
Other than that, there a ton of tech support written on the MJ and the MJ Plus. I have both and had problems with the first two MJ's and didn't register my MJ Plus because I gave up on a home line.
I know that's not a simple answer, but I hope it points you in the right direction.

The wireless device must be connected to a cable modem supplied by your cable company for a small fee. Therefore, there must be a cable connection in the bedroom to the cable modem. After you have connected the actual cable to a modem, you will need an extra device sold by LinkSys or another company to transmit and be connected to the cable modem. This device actually transmits the signal from the bedroom. You will be able to see it on your PC or phone, and can just choose it. You may also connect it to the transmitter with a LAN cable sold everywhere.

HOW TO INSTALL MAJIC PLUS TO PHONE


Simple. Plug the MagicJack into your router (using Cat5 cable) and then plug your landline phone into the MJ device (using a phone line cord) . Plug the power supply into the MJ device. It should bootup and setup automatically in a minute or two.

I can not get my magicJack Plus to work


If you're using the MJ Plus, it can be connected directly to the computer's USB port, or directly to the internet using the provided adapter. It must be connected properly in order to work.

The MJ program (on the computer) will not work if the MJ is not connected to the computer.

It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway)... The MJ will not work if you have not paid for at least one year of service.

If you have paid for service, check your connections to ensure nothing is loose. The wall adapter can get loose and disconnect you from service.

Sounds like your modem is in a provisional state. Walled garden is simply a tool to provision a modem..... a way that a cable or ADSL company uses to verify that the equipment is associated with a paying customer. Call your ISP if you are unable to access anything past that page via a browser. Chances are your provisioning record is lost, your modem has changed, there are too many devices connected directly to the modem, or there are other account issues such as nonpay status.

Before you call...
Check your modem connections, most companies will not allow two IP addresses to be issued to one piece of equipment (modem) without an extra fee, some companies will not allow two devices to be connected to a modem at all. If you have a device connected USB to the modem and another device connected through the ethernet port...disconnect one. I suggest going Ethernet and using a router if you wish to have more than one device connected to your modem.

Make sure the modem that worked yesterday is the one you are using today. If you've recently replaced your modem, you may need to call your cable company to register the new modem. One modem = one instance of service.

Check your bill due date. If your bill is past due, you may need to satisfy the past due balance before being allowed past the walled garden.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 with Win7 and cannot connect to the internet via high speed modem LAN cable. Internet works on my other computer using the same LAN connection, but it is running XP. I


So is your Modem from a phone company like AT&T? It sounds like it is because phone companies use what is called PPOE which is where the modem is configured with a userid and password to get out to the internet.

Cable providers use DHCP and don't require a userid and password.

If your other computer works using the network cable but your toshiba won't work using the same network cable, I think the phone company has configured your modem to only look at and accept your other computer. You can tell the modem to use specific MAC addresses which are unique to every device that attaches to the internet. You want your modem set up to use a range of addresses, not a specific one.

Cable modem lights stopped working


If the 'online' light is off, that means that you no longer are receiving a digital signal from your cable company. The first thing to try is a hard reset of the modem. Unplug the modem for about 15 seconds and plug it in again. In about 1 minute, the lights should be on again and everything should be working. If not, you will need to contact your cable company to have them fix the problem (normally resetting a device on their end).
