Check your owner's manual, but most self-cleaning ovens should not be cleaned with chemicals. The finish can be permanently damaged. You might try running the oven through the self-cleaning cycle more than once. It will take some time. Make sure the room is ventilated properly since the cleaning cycle produces a lot of heat.

My stove won't unlock,after cleaning

Hello Judy;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

This is a very common problem after self clean. The problem is people like the self cleaning feature. However, the manufacturer engineers have yet to provide a design to protect all of the operational components, including the control board from the self clean operation where with the help of additional heating electrodes, raises the oven temperature to 900-1,000 degrees F.

Technicians such as I recommend to customers either do not use the self clean or at least do not run it for more than 1 hour instead of 4 hours.

Ok, do not panic. Your high temperature limit switch has failed. This component if purchased over the internet is about $25.00.
This is located in the back of your oven and easily replaced.

You did not provide a model number. Locate your model number this is usually located on the side of the oven door or on the face of the oven when you open the door. So, we have a problem here, you can not open the door. This switch can be jumped with a 12-14 gauge wire.

Need manual for self cleaning, please?

Hello Mary;

You can get a user manual at the following website.

Locate your oven model number. It is located on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the door or on the side of the door. Put he model number into the website and you will get diagrams, component part numbers and manuals.

http://www.searspastsdirect.com/

I suspect the user manual is not going to help you. Tell me the model number and what is going on.

Manufacturers offer the self cleaning feature on ovens because customers like this feature and the ovens sell. Yet, the manufacturers engineers have not been able to provide a design that will protect all of the components from self cleaning temperature of 900-1,000 degree F.

When you go into the self cleaning model, the door will lock when you reach 500-550 Degree F. The oven temperature will raise to 900-1,000 degrees F. The oven door will not open until the oven temperature drops to 500 degree F after the self cleaning cycle is completed.

Now, You have a high temperature limit switch in your oven. If this switch fails, you will loose power to your control board and you will not be able to open the oven door.

If you have never used your self cleaning feature, the high temperature limit switch may have failed.

Do to the problems involved with the self cleaning feature, knocking out the control board from heat, additional heating element failure, and other components; It is in my professional recommendation as well as my fellow technicians not to use the self cleaning feature. If you do, do not run it for more than 1 hour instead for the manual 4 hours.

How do I clean oven not using self cleaning feature?

Hello friend, that's a great question!

If you do not want to use the self-clean feature installed on your stove it is not recommended to use any type of chemicals inside of your appliance. I would use warm water and mild soap to clean the inside of your appliance. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

After using self cleaning feature...oven door locks up...4th time this has happened...kitchenaid says "no known issues with your unit or the problem you reported...can you halp

Hello - we have had this same issue a number of times as well. Do you lose all power on the unit too? We do - have discovered that using the self-cleaning isn't really a good idea with these ovens. The ovens aren't really made to heat to such high heats that are used in the cleaning cycle and during that last hour of cleaning it hits it highest peak - and it blows it's fuses. We recently blew 2 fuses at the same time, locking both doors (Double oven) and knocking out the power for the entire unit. Our repair man said that the average on wall ovens is anywhere between 6 - 12 cleanings before you will blow the same fuses and the whole cycle starts all over again. Our expense was $350. So, self-cleaning now means elbow grease around this house. How this information was a bit helpful for you.
