SOURCE: Can I install a TV Tuner Card into my MD7818U

Yes you can... get yourself a USB2 TV card I can recommend the Pixelview Play TV Hybrid. I use this and it is great. Get Dscaler TV, and use that for the Analog TV and DVBviewer for DVB-T, Also if you have a dish, you can get Sat Receivers DVB-S, as well. Upgrade your RAM when doing so too, for best performance.

SOURCE: critical hard drive message followed immediately

If this message persists at each shutdown I suggest that you back up your data and get a new hard drive. Hard drives fail slowly, so you may still be able to squeeze out some life from the drive, but the bottom line is that you're playing russian roulette. It can go off when you least want it to.
After you get your critical data off the drive onto an external drive or burn them on a DVD, you can do a disk scan (Go to Windows Explorer, Right-click the hard drive, choose Tools and run the Scan Disk utility and have it check for errors. Or, you can also go to Start-Run, and type CMD and hit Enter in the small dialogue box. Then, in the new window type CHKDSK /f and hit Enter. This will scan and fix any errors it finds on the hard disk.
After you finish scanning you may want to check the mechanical parameters of the hard drive using a SMART Disk scanning utility eg. http://www.ariolic.com/download/activesmart.exe which is my favorite, but I have the full version, not the trial, but even this trial will do the job of notifying you if your hard drive has a mechanical problem or not.
If the ChkDsk utility finds problems and solves them, while the SMART scanner does not find any problems with your drive, then probably your hard drive only suffered from software-induced issues, and in this case you can relax and continue using the old hard drive, with regular monthly "CHKDSK /f" scans just to be on the safe side.

download and install speedfan, you will be able to check your CPU temp. if it's not too hot, then it might be a power issue. Have you tried removing the battery for 30 mins, then trying it ?

What would make my laptop come on but go back off

You operating system is corrupted. Your computer is fine. Open it in "Safe Mode" using a function key, "F" something. (You will have to look it up for e Gateway as they are different for different mfrs.) Select "Safe Mode with Networking." The computer should boot up for you, but the screen will be different. At START type in: "cmd" a new (backdoor) window will pop up. type in "chkdsk/f" exactly where the cursor lands you. Without quotation marks, of course. Let Microsoft repair the program for you as you wait. Be patient, it takes some time. Reboot afterwards and your PC should behave as normal.

Get safe mode off

Windows sometimes automatically runs on safe mode if the computer was not shut down properly the last time it was used. There is no turning safe mode off, you just need to restart your computer and everything will be back to normal.

My computer continues to shut-down for no apparent reason while booting up. It will get to bios then abruptly shutdown. Please Help!!

Maybe something is defective from the factory? Can you bring it back and exchange it for another? Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it's a desktop, maybe remove a side panel and aim a small fan at the inside. Do you know how to start up your computer in safe mode? Maybe try starting it in safe mode and see if you can do a system restore, do you know what that is and how to do it? Google will explain it to you, but I'd suggest those steps.

KDL52EX700 shuts down and restarts

If it is showing a blue scree of death (BSOD) and shuts down before you can read the error message try this:
Turn the computer off, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Scroll down below Safe Mode and you will see an option to Disable Automatic Restart. Select it and reboot your machine. Next time it boots up you will be able to read the error message. You'll probably need a system disc or repair disc to fix the blue screen error message.

PC SHUTS DOWN ON ITS OWN

Could be a few different possibilities-
Power Supply failing
Overheating Issue
Virus-

first thing i would do is to try booting the computer up into safe mode with networking. to do this:

Shut off your computer and turn it back on- immediately start pressing the F8 key repeatidly until you get an advance boot menu- then go to safe mode with networking and press enter on your keyboard- See if Windows operates normally while in safe mode- If so then issue is probably a Virus.
