SOURCE: Grinding when Engaing PTO for the tiller-Troy Built Horse 8hp

It's likely that your clutch needs adjustment. To adjust, you just need to loosen the two screws on the plate and slide it a bit so the clutch better engages the rear dog clutch. Have you ever taken the tiller portion off the transmission to grease the clutch? If not, before adjusting it you might want to do that. It could be that the clutch isn't sliding back far enough to engage the rear end and a little grease is all it needs. This service requirement is explained in the owners manual for the tiller. One last point, the tiller must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch. From your note, it sounded like you were engaging the clutch with the forward/reverse lever in the forward position. The lever must be in neutral when engaging the pto clutch.

SOURCE: electric clutch adjustment

.012" is the recommended air gap for the electric clutch. Use a feeler guage in the slots beside the nuts and check in circular pattern. Go at least 3 complete circles with your guage when adjusting.

Hope this helps,

SOURCE: when pushing down the pedal, the gears and pto is

I am not a diesel mechanic, a tractor mechanic, or a shade tree mechanic. But, it sounds to me like it is time for a new clutch pack. Anyone with reasonable knowledge of simple mechanics can do this job at a much cheaper price than a professional diesel or tractor mechanic, but it can be a heavy duty job. I would weigh the differences in downtime of my equipment and the ability of my shade tree mechanic.

I have a 5900 ford tractor,it is hard to put it in gear( grinds). What needs to be done so that you can change gears without it grinding?

Usually it means you need a little more clutch adjustment and/or a lower engine rpm. Your synchronizers could be bad. The fluid level can be low, but overfilling on some series will flood the rear brakes with lube.

On some models the pto must slow down or stop spinning if an implement has momentum and you need to shift. There are free wheeling pto adapters which allow the pto to operate at a different rpm than the implement.

The high rpm on an automatic trans can result in shifting problems when changing gears.

That is not a clutch problem it is a selector problem in the gearbox you need to check the reverse selector dogs and fork

Mahindra 6500. Clutch seems to be slipping very bad in high gear and some in low gear. Is there an adjustment

If you have a hydraulic system , there is no adjustment. You didn't state a year. Adjustable clutch linkage went out in the 70's I believe.

The power take off starts slipping and cuts off after it runs for a couple hours, what is the solutions to my problem

If you are talking about an electric PTO system, then there are two possible causes. The first is voltage drop. If your alternator is not charging the battery correctly, the available power to operate the PTO Clutch will drop below critical level. If you have to keep putting the battery on charge, this is almost certainly the cause.

The second possibility is mechanical failure of the PTO clutch. One of the most common clutch failures causes them to overheat and when the temperature increases, so does the electrical resistance.

Try this test:
Park the machine on a flat, level surface, switch the engine off, lock the brakes, remove the spark plug lead then remove the cutter belt from the engine pulley.
Now try to turn the PTO pulley on the engine. It should be firm to turn and you may hear/feel a slight grinding (this is normal). Next, turn the ignition switch to the 'run' position (NOT the start position), then turn the PTO switch to the ON position. Reach back under the machine and try to turn the PTO pulley again. This time, it should feel much heavier to turn because it's now connected to the engine shaft. It should turn smoothly for about 3/4 of a turn either way. Most importantly, you should no longer hear/feel any grinding. If you can still feel grinding, it means the PTO clutch has had a mechanical failure. In some cases, the fault can be rectified, however it is not generally recommended as a D.I.Y task.

You may have a defective park brake switch or the pto clutch could need to be adjusted.Does the machine **** down when you try to engage the pto?If so also check the seat switch. To adjust the pto clutch you need a 9/16' wrench and tur all three lock nuts on the clutch a half turn at a time a retry the clutch, keep going until it will stay engaged.

when u engage u have to push in clutch and wait for spinning gears to stop the engage pto and let out clutch, excessive spinning of gears can be caused by low transmission grease also causing grinding

John deere 2010 tractor. pto grinds and wont engage

The PTO usually has a clutch that has to be engaged so that you can select the PTO rotation setting. I had a problem like that on my tractor and all it needed was a little adjustment on the PTO clutch lever, so it could disengage the PTO gearbox properly.
