Question about Cub Cadet Garden

Open Question

2005 50" Z-force zero turn Cub cadet - hydrostatic transmission on left side is losing power. What is likely issue? Control rods need adjustment? V- belt issues? Pulley issues?

Update: since posting this question, I continued to work on the mower. I noted that the control arm on the front of the left transmission did not open as wide as the one on the right side. I worked backwards from the transmission trying to find the reason why. What I finally found was the bolt holes on the lever piece that bolts onto the steel shaft that the control rods attach to were worn into ovals instead of tight circles. This allowed the lever to wobble before applying any pressure to the control rods. I found a bushing in my bolts collection, fitted it into the hole on the lever and tightened with a new bolt. This corrected the control arm at the front of the transmission issue. It only had to open about 1/8" more and the impact was dramatic. Mower works like new - more speed and control was immediately noticed. Hope this might help others that have the same problem.

SOURCE: Z force 48 in. cub Cadet mower starts but dies

Check the wires to the seat switch. Under the seat you should find 2 wires connected to the seat. Unplug them, and use a jumper on the end that goes into the body of the mower. Try it again, and if it works, replace your seat.

SOURCE: Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.

Why is my Series 1000 LT1024 Hydrostatic Drive Cub Cadet not pulling?

In most cases the hydrostatic drives are not made by the company tractor or lawnmower.
This is in the owners manual.

Hydrostatic Transmission
The hydrostatic transmission is sealed at the factory
and is maintenance free. The fluid level cannot be
checked nor can the oil be changed. Always keep the
area around the transmission cooling fan free of grass
and debris at all times

Cub cadet i1042 zero turn doesnt seem to want to go forward when turning or even going strait sit moves very slow and when i go up a little hill it stops half way and then creeps up the hill it use to

If it's a hydrostatic transmission, I would have the transmission looked at. You may need to "purge" the system and check the fluid level.

The ones I've done called for the drive disconnects (the rod or lever which allows you to roll the tractor when the engine is shut down) to be in the flow bypass position. They also wanted the wheels off the floor, then the engine to be started, & the direction control to be worked SLOWLY to the front & rear positions 10-12 times. Then put the bypass valve back in its 'drive' position, fire the engine again & repeat the slow cycle of the direction control. The unit SHOULD be quieter now & perform better, but double check the oil level because expelling the air may have dropped it too low.

I have a z force s cub cadet. The battery is good. Tested and passed. the engine/started must work hard to turn over, but still won't catch. I will jump the tractor and it will start and run.

You may want to try to find a battery with a stronger amperage rating. Even if the battery passes if it is borderline for starting it new it may not be strong enough even if it's still okay for it's battery type.

Other causes:
A worn starter can cause this issue. If a few of the coils shorted the starter will work but require much more current to do the job

A bad relay/solenoid to the starter that doesn't allow enough current to go through can cause this.

Valves out of adjustment... especially on some Briggs and Stratton engines, it's a known issue that if the valves need adjustment the motor can require a lot of energy to turn over and can cause constant hard starts.

On my cu cadet zero turn only the left side turns and the right side moans but wont move ever with the release lever to free wheel released

Check the hydraulic oil level for the hydrostat drives(if it has a reserve tank located under the seat. Some ZT's don't have the reserve tank. Don't over fill that tank. 1/4 inch above the bottom is all it needs.)

Also, check the steering arm bolts. Very often they work themselves loose and the arm doesn't pull the valve rod that controls the hydrostat unit.

Problem with left side hydrostatic transmission

This is a well documented problem with cub cadet ZT transmissions. They tend to go bad after 200 hours of use. Sometimes having the dealer change the transmission oil will help (they need to remove the transmissions to do this!). Most times, the transmission is gone & must be replaced ($800-$900).

Sound to me like a design defect. My ZT-50 lasted only 4 years. Needless to say, the replacement was not a cub cadet.
