From the info I found, this appears to be an older mechanical machine. If so, most likely it is seizing due to lack of frequent oiling and cleaning. AVOID using the machine until you get the issue resolved as it could damage the motor. The following may be helpful in getting your machine back to working again. Lack of oil can affect many different moving parts in the machine. It just happens that it has first appeared with the zig-zag capability of your machine. Apparently, manufacturers did not anticipate these machines would last so long--they assumed the machines would be periodically maintained by a professional technician who would regularly oil. As a result, many of these great machines have been sidelined simply for lack of oil... but they can be brought back to life.

What actually moves the needle for making zig zag on 72 su elna

Hi,

a combination of belts, cranks and power help to move the needle in your machine.

If you're interested in learning more about the mechanics of your device, you can contact Elna by dialing +41 22 884 86 66

I have an Elna Contessa 410 sewing machine and when I choose 5mm zigzag stitch it gives me 2mm zigzag stitch, why is this happening?

possibly the needle swing bearing is a bit gummed up so not swinging fully when the gear is directing it to, could be in need of a good clean and oil. Other option is to set it to a widest zig zag, left needle position, and manually push the needle bar, (not the needle itself) to the right, then let go and see if it moves back fully to the left. Do this several times and see if it frees up. Old oil inside if left can go thick and gummy so it may still need that service.

Why won't my Elna 62C won operate with the cams nor will it do a zig zag stitch.

It is likely that your elna graph gear is broken.
remove thread from machine and open door to where you put cams in. Step on pedal and run at full speed. It the mechanism where the cams go spinning? If not the gear is broken.

1967 Elna Star series Supermatic

i have an elna model 62C supermatic purchased in 1972. on yours, do you mean the motor won't run at all? or does the electronic foot not cause a response to sew? after 30 years, in 2002, my electronic foot quit working. i opted to purchase the internal electronic module, and replaced it into the original housing (did it myself). the two weak spots in an otherwise amazing machine are the two plastic gears--rotary hook gear which works your bobbin, and the camshaft stack gear which works cams/zigzag/etc. i have replaced both in the last 5 years (again, did it with my husband's help). i'd say the Elna is pretty awesome sewing machine with the couple of million hours i've used it (no exaggeration!) and the minimum of repairs it has needed. an excellent source of parts is www.whitesewingcenter.com. parts are reasonable, and authentic. Raymond White is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. good luck. jeannie
