Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a Kohler CV20S engine on a Dixie Chopper. Engine oil is leaking heavily out the bottom of the engine. I can't see exactly where it is coming from. Any idea what the problem is?

After 1 hour of mowing I need to replace about a pint of engine oil.

From looking at the maintenance manual it could be the lower oil seal. How hard is it to replace that? Any special tools or training required?

The bottom pan gasket is probably blown. or the main seal. wipe it off real good and start it you will see where it is coming from

I have a 23hp Kohler on a Dixie Chopper motor has about a 1000 hours on it runs good until it warms up then starts to run rich and has no power. If I pinch the fuel line it starts to run good.

Sounds like your fuel shut off solenoid isn't doing its job. I'd replace that first then adjust the choke if it's still not running right.

Have a kohler 27 on scag turf tiger the engine will turnover then the starter begins to click and will not start any suggestions

Check the oil for fuel in it. Oil will be really thin and be over filled. Take out the spark plug and see if excess fuel is pushed out when you crank it. If there is then the fuel shut off solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor is leaking fuel into the engine when it's not running.

How to change engine deck belt on a 2006 Dixie chopper mower

there isn't such a thing... it's either a hydro (motion) belt or the deck drive belt. Dixie's also sometimes had 2 belts for the deck... the drive belt and the blade belt. your model number should be under the seat

How to get a dixie chopper repair manual

Don't seem to find a 27060 classic. The only classic available is a 2760 or 2760T or 2760W.

Best to go to this Dixie Chopper support site and select the model carefully. You may not find a service manual but depending on what you may want to repair, the parts manual may be sufficient.

Kohler engine oil leak

Could have blown a seal however before checking for that I would check the drain plug and filter seating if you changed the filter. Make sure the drain plug is not cross threaded. You can run a little low but should never over fill. Hope this will help. Most of the time if over filled you will get some smoke as well.

I have (2) questions. 1 is the dip stick on my S&S 107" Big Dog. It has two notches/grooves. (1) is at the bottom of the stick, and (1) is at the top towards the rubber cap. Are those the add...

Well, I don't know about a Big Dog but I do know how the dipstick on a Harley is set up. You have two marks on the stick. The top mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Since the S&S engine is just like a Harley engine in that it is a dry sump type engine. When you check the oil when the engine is cold, as long as the oil is touching the dipstick, you should be OK to ride. Once the engine comes up to temp, then check the oil and bring it close to the top mark. Do not overfill. Never add oil to a cold engine unless you cannot see oil on the stick.

Now, for the leak on the left side of your bike. Now you said that your Big Dog is a custom chopper and your replaced the main seal. You did not tell me whether your primary drive is a standard chain drive primary or an open belt drive as so many "custom choppers" run. If you replaced the main seal, did you lubricate the inside lip of the seal before you installed it. If not, when the engine starts up, the friction will burn up the lip of the seal before the oil gets to it. It only takes a half second to burn the lip of the seal. Always put oil or light grease on the seal lips when you install a seal.

If your primary drive is a standard chain type, the leak could be a bad engine to primary O-ring that goes between the engine and the inner primary cover.

Another place that the oil could be coming from is the nosecone. If the oil is leaking out of the bottom of the nosecone, it can leak down to the centerline of the cases. When you put your bike on the kickstand, the oil will then run across to the left side and drip off. The best way to find the leak is to clean everything off as clean as you can get it. Then go for a short ride and come back and look for the leak.

I hope this helps.
