How To Protect Your Children Online

Protecting your children online is usually much harder than protecting yourself. Children are subject to the same threats that you might be subject to while you are online. Sometimes they are even subject to threats which are worse. Children have to be protected from the online threats, & sometimes even from themselves. Protecting your children online requires discipline, education, & a little use of technology.

Among the threats to which children are subject while they are online are:
  • Harassment.
  • Exploitation (child pornography, abduction, trafficking) & stalking.
  • Exposure to sexually explicit material.
  • Identity theft & fraud.
Threats to children come in the same ways they do to adults. However, children may be more susceptible due to a number of reasons. Among these reasons are:
  • Children are generally more trusting.
  • They may not obey authority figures such as mum & dad.
  • They want to be socially active & accepted by their friends & peers.
Protecting children online involves several facets, such as:
  • Educating them on threats & how these threats are perpetrated. Make your children aware of the threats & what could happen if they do certain actions on the Internet.
  • Encourage your children to talk to you & let you know when someone is trying to get too close to them or get information out of them online.
  • Discourage your children from giving out too much information about themselves (such as photos, home address, phone number, school, friends, etc.)
  • Restrict Internet access. Make sure you know when your children are on the Internet, what they are doing, & with whom.
  • Schedule Internet access to a time when you are able to be at home & talk with them about it, see what they are doing, & so forth.
  • Don't permit unsupervised access. Deny Internet access to your children in their room. Allow Internet access only in public or common use areas (such as the family room, etc.)
  • Make sure you can see the monitor at all times while your children are online. Be wary of children who demand too much privacy online - what do they have to hide?
  • Install & use network monitoring tools such as Net Nanny.
  • If needed, restrict Internet access on the wireless router, DSL router, or even on the computer itself by setting a password that you only know so that your children will only be allowed to login when you can supervise them.
  • Install a firewall that blocks chat or instant messaging programs, or access to certain sites.
  • Install software that limits surfing to certain times of the day, or requires parental permission.

Can you use a 12 volt car battery for a f-150 power wheels?

The first thing you need to know if modifying your vehicle will void the warranty. Just a disclaimer.

It is NOT recommended to use a car battery in a kids ride on vehicle. It could work and function, but what it really comes down to is the safety for you and your children so it is not recommended. It is unsafe to use any kind of unsealed wet acid battery for a ride on toy for your children. The batteries that need to be bought are of the SEALED LEAD ACID kind, again, this is for the safety of the children and though there may be a lot of reasons for wanting a car battery in the vehicle is is just not safe enough.

Power Wheels recommends using the 12V gray battery that is designed for the vehicle, it can be seen here:
If you decide against buying the Power Wheels battery please do your research and buy a safe battery for the vehicle. You can find a lot of information on modifying these ride on toys at they have lots of information, and will make sure the mods you do are safe for the children as well.

2 way radios wont communicate between one another.batteries are chaarged radios turn not know how to set channels on them.

Hi Curtis,

Oh dear, So much loose change, that you had to buy a TOY radio.

I can't stress enough that for a few more dollars, people could buy a half decent radio, and you wouldn't have these issues.

These are mass produced, nasty little monsters, things keep going wrong with them, and very little can be done, if anything to solve the recurring problems.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but These are TOYS for children to play with, not a real 2-way radio.

Had the battery changed in 2007 nissan murano and now the chimes don't ring and the drivers doesn't automatically move back when opening the drivers door. How do I reset these?:

Disconnecting the battery erases stored memory, after you connect the battery put the key in the ignition cylinder and turn the driver door switch on(open) and off (closed), on (open),the entry, exist function then becomes complete, and the return operation can be operated,

I have model number 8994w and i have lost my instructions .... looking to set it up as a toddler bed

This crib is on recall. Take it back to Walmart for a full refund of the original retail price, no receipt required. Take a printout of the link below. No problem!

Children have died in these. Please dont become a statistic.

I see you want to use it as a toddler bed and this doesnt appear to be a concern of the recall. Only use as a crib has been discouraged. However, I do know that one of my customers returned the exact same bed to Walmart and got $180 cash. Please consider taking it to them so that any future use as a crib will be prevented along with any injury to a future infant sleeping in it. With $180 you can purchase a very nice toddler bed, even splurge! Good luck.

I can't unlock touchscreen panel

This is an safety features that prevents unwanted oven operation by children.

To set child lock...
Touch and hold STOP/CLEAR or 0,START until LOCKED appears in the display and two beeps are heard. If the time of day was already set, the time of day will return to the display windows. After you touch another.

If the CHILD LOCK was already set and you touched another cooking pad, the word LOCKED shows in the display.
Then you can cancel the CHILD LOCK according the below procedure...
Touch and hold STOP/CLEAR or 0,START pad until LOCKED disappears in the display.

Aftes the CHILD LOCK is turned off, the time of day will return to the display window. The oven will operate normally.

Hope helped with this. Good luck.

My 26'' onn refuses to alter the volume with either the original remote or the ntl one, even the vol control on the side doesn't work, for that matter nothing works from the set controls or the remote.

The problem was resolved by switching the set off and checking all connections,I did this because, during a recent visit by our grand children the boy wanted to play some dvd's for the youngest so only having a simple dvd player meant he had to use the scart for the ntl box and upon replacement he'd got the plugs mixed up,so the removal and replacement of all the plugs meant they all went back in the right place and Hey Presto all the controls returned. I'd like to thank you for being there although it was not necessary to use your service it's great to know s/one is at hand for these problems, Thanks and best regards Bernie.
