Question about Garden

Open Question

I have a 0.45 thread diameter, 0.46 shank diameter 22 threads per inch bolt. Can't find. What is it? It's off a 45 year old Sensation lawn mower and I seem to remember it maybe an automotive bolt.

SOURCE: my lawn mower will not stay started

Since it starts, it doesn't sound like an electrical problem, it sounds like it runs out of air. To test this, remove the air filter, start it and see if it stays running. If so, replace the air filter.

It could also be varnish or sludge in the carb bowl. This is best serviced by a technician if you have little mechanical prowess.

After sitting for 3 years, I would at minimum do all of this before I expected it to run ok:

  1. Change the oil.
  2. Replace the air filter.
  3. Drain the fuel tank by removing the fuel line from the engine end (not the tank end).
  4. Replace the spark plug.
If the above did not work I would drop the carb bowl and clean it, then add one ounce of carb cleaner to a full tank, and let it run (roughly if necessary) through the engine.

After sitting 3 years I would also replace the fuel line itself!

SOURCE: lawn mower keeps dying

Remove gas cap. If mower now runs without stalling, your problem is the vent in the gas cap is blocked. Replace the cap. Common problem!

What size thread on a hbg10 arbor

If you can't measure it directly, take the nut with you to a hardware store and find a bolt that fits it. But you can easily measure the pitch with a decent ruler. Just count the number of threads in one inch. Count the threads from one peak to the next, So if the first peak lines up with zero on your ruler and the thirteenth peak is at one inch, this would be a 12 tpi (threads per inch) pitch. If you can measure the diameter of the threaded shaft, you will find that the actual diameter of the threaded part is just a little smaller than the nominal size. For instance, a 5/8 diameter thread might measure about 0.610 inches.
Good luck!

What size is the bolt and thread size needed for the tripod mount on the Canon G12 digital camera?

Hi Winterhawk.

I think you'll find all camera tripod mount stuff is termed 1/4-20. That's 0.25 inches diameter, 20 threads per inch.

Obviously you want to make your bolt short so you don't crack the camera case, strip the bolt, or otherwise get into trouble.

Make sure all the small holes that are in the brass bolt that holds the float bowl on the carburetor are clean and clear. Use no metal objects to clean it. You should find holes in the bottom of the bolt and along the top on the non-threaded part. This bolt is also the main jet of the carburetor.

Common American National Standard Pipe Taper Threads
  • NPT - National Pipe Thread Taper
  • FPT - female (internal) National Pipe Taper threads
  • MPT - male (external) National Pipe Taper threads
  • NPTF - Dryseal American National Standard Taper Pipe Thread (ANSI B1.20.3)
For NPT threads a sealant compound or Teflon tape must be used for a leak-free seal. For NPTF no sealant is needed for a sealing.
Characteristics of NPT (also known as ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 Pipe Threads, General Purpose):
  • tapered thread 1o 47'
  • truncation of roots and crests are flat
  • 60o thread angle
  • pitch is measured in threads per inch
Note! Pipe sizes do not refer to any physical dimensions. The outside diameter of a pipe or fitting must be measured and compared to a table for size identification. A 3/4" NPT pipe thread has an outside diameter - OD - of 1.050 inches.
Each thread size has a defined number of threads per inch - TPI, or pitch. The 3/4" NPT pipe thread has 14 threads per inch. Both the TPI and OD of the thread are required for positive identification of thread size because more than one size have the same TPI.

NPT threads are not interchangeable with NPS - National Pipe Straight - threads.
NPT threads may look similar to ISO 7/1 threads. However, ISO and NPT threads should not be mixed. ISO threads have 55o taper angle versus 60o for NPT. The NPT root and crest configurations are also different from ISO. For ISO threads pitch is usually measured in millimeters (may be expressed in Inch). The pitch are different.

Im looking for the thread size, off the drive shaft of a power build 10.5 hp

i'm assuming your looking for the nut that holds on the flywheel? if so, measure the diameter of the thread in the crankshaft. you need the diameter and pitch(oor threads per inch) to "know" the thread size. Measure the diameter accurately. then, measure the length of the thread. example, if there is 1/2 inch of thread length and you have 4 threads in that length it is a "8" thread. so if the diameter (overall diameter measured on top of the tips of the thread) is 1/2 inch, then your thread is 1/2-8.
