See if there is an adjustment on the rod that closes the holes. If not try spraying all moving components with some wd-40 while operating the linkage. If that works rinse and dry off and try applying some dry lube on mechanisms

The little door on the hopper of my Scotts Speedy Green 1000 spreader does not close when I release the contol handle. Is there a spring that has come off and can a replacement part be purchased? Dennis

Hi Dennis. I don't think there are any after market parts for Scotts spreaders. I do recall a wire and a spring on one type of Scotts spreader. There was an eyelet hole just off center that the wire and spring attached to. You could probably rig something up pretty easy. Would be a matter of locating a spring and wire.

Before you get to deep into this... flip it over and look for dried / caked fertilizer on next to thehinge area. I have seen this stop spreader application doors from closing often.

Lost manual

I have a Scotts speedy green 3000. Got it $5 used. I just called Scotts, and they are sending me a manual. But, they told me how to calibrate it. First, you need to know if you have the same "version" as I do. Apparently they made the same model more than one way. I'm told I have a newer one. The way the Scotts rep differentiated was by the wheels. I have all black wheels with orange hubcaps. Older models have orange wheels. If you have the model I have, then do this to calibrate the spreader:

1. On the black slide that comes up when the handle is pulled to open the spreader and releasing product you will find a curved line about 1/2 and inch from the top.

2. Set the spreader to a setting of 2 on the handle.

3. When you pull the lever as if you were releasing product, the indented black line should line up with the curved part of the green hopper at the top of the opening.

4. If it does not align, then you need to adjust the cable that run from the handle down to the hopper door. This is done using pliers of wrench by turning the square nut at the bottom of the cable. It's trial and error at this point.

Mine was off by 30%.

Good luck
