Question about Hinge Saws

Open Question

I need a upper wheel shaft hinge part no. 45-2 for a WA-14M band saw sold by C.I.I. in 1992. Is it the same as Part no. 45-2 HINGE/SHAFT ASSEMBLY UP. WH., 1314330452 for a KC-1433FXR?

How do you remove the upper wheel on a craftsman 12 inch bandsaw

Check with if they have the manual for your band saw. You might want to try these steps. First, you need to unplug the saw and remove the band. Then remove the outside snap ring.
I am not sure but you might have to remove the self locking screw in the shaft.
Once the snap ring is removed, you should be able to remove the wheel and the outer bearing.
Then remove the back bearing from the shaft. Next, install the bearings in the reverse order.

I don't have any personal experience w/ band saw output shaft failure. This is kind of technical but I suggest you to check with a repair man or you may download a manual . They have free manual for Dayton 2LKU1 . Hope that helps.

I have a craftsman band saw model 137224120 and need a shaft for the lower wheel and tried to order one and this part has been discontinued, any idea where to find a replacement one

I have the same saw and my shaft was also worn out. I was frustrated that there is no replacement part. Here's what I did (and it's worked great - so far): I put JB weld (metal epoxy) on the worn section of shaft and let it cure overnight. I then chucked the shaft in my drill press and ground the JB weld back to the correct diameter by holding a metal file against it. I polished it smooth with some 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Replaced it in the saw and it works with no wobble.

The problem with this saw is that the bottom wheel seems to move the blade forwards almost slipping off.

If you are talking about a band saw, the lower wheel is not usually adjustable. If it is running off of true perpendicular, then investigate the lower shaft bearings and the wheel mounting to the shaft. Normal adjustment is corrected with the upper wheel tracking adjustments. Hope this helps!

Blade comes off

The wheels are not parallel to each other causing mis-tracking. Check both wheel bearings for any slop. Make sure the wheel surfaces are not broken up. There should be tracking adjustments on the upper wheel. Turn the machine by hand until it tracks perfectly. Make sure the lower wheel is tight to it's shaft. Hope this helps!

Top wheel part broke off

I suspect the part you need is 150086 "Upper Wheel Shaft". You can confirm this by checking the exploded diagram for your bandsaw which can be downloaded at

See page 25 for exploded diagram showing wheel shafts, bearings, etc..

It might be worth checking with JET about warranty since I believe that band saw has a 5 year warranty. You can check here for a service center near you.
