Question about Philips BCOOL XG1 DLP Projector

1 Answer

Hi, I have two Philips bcool XG1 DLP projectors that I use for home cinema. Both of these projectors have developed a fault after about 2 years of use. The fault appears to be the same in both units. The problem is that the projector powers on and works ok as normal for about 5-10mins and then it shuts itself down. The LAMP LED flashes on and off at a frequncy of 1 per second. According to the troubleshooting manual, this suggests a problem with the fans. All fans appear to be working but I am not sure how to diagnose the operating frequency (rpm) to assess which, if any, of the fans is under performing. If one of the fans is running at a sub-optimum rate, then I would assume that this is the reason why the controller is shutting down the projector, to protect the internal components. Is this simply a fan problem, or is there a known underlying problem with this type of projector? Both projectors have more than 500 hours lamp life remaining. I have toyed with the idea of replacing the fans with new ones, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and if this has fixed the issue. I don't want to spend lots of cash on fans if this is not going to resolve the issue. If this is a simple repair then I am happy to attempt it myself, or put them to a specialist for repair. How should I proceed to diagnose what it is that is actually causing my projector to shut down? With thanks, Graeme

Hi

This could be due to overheating. Can you hear a fan running? If not then unfortunately it’s the time to replace the fans on both the projector. Does the projector feel hot to the touch? If yes then try putting a small house fan on it to cool it and see if that helps.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Hi i have just connected up panasonic home cinema system via my projector and the titles etc are back to front any ideas ?? Regards

Trying to understand your problem. Sounds like an orientation problem with your projector. Check your manual to get image orientation setup correctly for your projector. Look for projecting image onto the front of screen instead of projecting image thru the back of screen. Some times the application calls for projecting from behind screen just like a projection TV.

I want to connect my Philips HTS3357 Home Cinema System to my Panasonic PT-AE900E LCD Projector, How do I go about putting it altogether so it works with my xbox360/PS3

Generally speaking, if your Home Cinema system is able to pass-thru video as well as audio, you'll want to take the HDMI cable from the XBOX video out, into the Home Cinema system's input (any HDMI input should be fine), and then run the HDMI video out to your projector. Any other devices you want to be able to project as well (DVD/BluRay, PC, Cable, Satellite, etc.) would also be plugged into the Home Cinema system as "in" devices, like the XBOX.

When you want to display one of those devices, you would select that "in" port's input name in the Home Cinema system (for example, if the XBOX is connected to the HDMI in that is labeled "aux", you will switch the cinema system to Aux Input, and the projector should immediately begin getting the signal from the theatre system. To switch to another device, you simply change the Input channel on the Home Cinema.

The audio also, providing the device (the XBOX) can carry it on the HDMI cable, will also be delivered to the Home Cinema. Some devices cannot carry sound on HDMI (though many can). For those, you will need to run an HDMI cable for the video, and also an optical cable or other type of audio-only cable, for its audio. You do not need to run an audio cable to the projector though, as the projector is only for video. The Home Cinema will take care of the sound itself.

Phillips bSure XG1 LC3141 Projector. Images are dull in colour, and also has yellow tinge all over. Have replaced lamp but this did not fix the problem. Unit ~ 7 years old.

Try opening the unit and cleaning the LCD and lens, and also clean the outer lens- it sounds like this unit may have been stored or used in a smokey environment!

Hi i have a Philips 4331 LCD projector its giving me double image which is not well colour mixed i have tryed to clean all the LCD pannel and all the lance but problem is still the same, if you have any...

If you are having "shadowing", this indicates a convergence problem in the LCD optical engine. Convergence is the correct alignment of all panels so there is no shadowing, or at worst limited to a one pixel shift. Some models can be adjusted, others cannot depending on the optical engine.
