I have a 4in riding mower. I took both rear wheels off to put tubes in them, when I put them back on the mower wouldn't move forward or reverse. Any suggestions?

It will run backwards but not forward

If you are able to move in reverse but not forward, you need to adjust the levers. First you will need to elevate the rear wheels and set the neutral. This will then allow you to set the levers for proper forward and reverse movements.

When I put in forward or reverse it wont move

Two possibilities. 1. You may have disengaged the free wheeling valve which is usually low on the rear of the machine. It is designed to enable the moving of the machine without the engine running. 2. The wheel that you took off to change the tyre has a key fitted in the keyway in the axle and the wheel hub. These usually have to be slid in after the wheel is on the axle and before the circlip or nut is fitted. Did you check that the axle is not running free in the hub when in gear? You would be able to push the machine without the engine running if this key is absent. Suggest that you jack up the wheel free of the ground and see if it turns free on the axle.

Riding mower won't move forward or reverse

WHAT MAKE AND MODEL MOWER? YES...YOU EASILY COULD HAVE BROKEN THE AXLE!
SEE IF EACH WHEEL WILL SPIN INDEPENDENTLY OF ONE ANOTHER IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. ALSO, SOME MOWERS HAVE A ENGAGE/DISENGAGE TRANS LEVER (USUALLY PULLS IN AND OUT AND LOCKS WITH A CLEVIS PIN RETAINER)

Troy-bilt riding mower won't move in forward or reverse

I had a similar problem with my TroyBilt 50 inch zero turn mower. Was cutting grass when it stopped going either forward or backward even though it would start and the PTO would move the cutting blades. Turned out the tensioner spring for the belt that drives the motors near the rear wheels had gone missing. Searched the yard where I had cut and moved the machine but couldn't find it. A new one cost me about $7.50. Put the new one on and it worked fine.

Rear end

Remove the center dust caps from the rear axles, start the tractor up and put it in gear and observe the axles, if one of them is spinning freely inside the wheel, you have lost the 1/4" square key that pins the wheel to the axle. Replace the key and you can go back to mowing. This often happens when a flat has been repaired and the wheel pushes the key out the back as you slide it back on the axle. Sometimes it will just barely catch at the edge of the wheel and work for a while then fall out and you not even know it

Lawnmower will not move in gear with motor running

Hi
Check to see if any oil leaks between rear wheels where the tractor was parked. Also make sure hydrostatic disengage lever, at rear of tractor by hitch, has to be pushed in.

Hydrostatic mower goes in reverse but not forward. Only 73 hrs on it!

On my hydrostatic there is an adjustment on the forward/back lever which can be made to run all reverse or all forward. Normal setting gives both of course. Look at that adjustment. Maybe something let go.
