the formula for volume of a cylinder is Volume = pi × r2 × h

but if you arent math savvy, first you convert your units so they are the same. all you have to do is change 16 inches into 1.3 feet and divide your diameter (10.82 feet) by 2 to give you the radius (5.41 feet)

plug in those values here:

https://www.bing.com/search?FORM=U312DF&PC=U312&q=volume+of+a+cylinder

and you will get 119.5 cubic feet

then convert cubic feet to cubic yards here:

http://www.metric-conversions.org/volume/cubic-feet-to-cubic-yards.htm

and the answer to your question is 4.425 cubic yards

Since we are trying to calculate the number of cubic yards, let's calculate everything in terms of yards.

Converting inches to yards, we have to divide by 36, since there are 36 inches in a yard.

1 ' = 1/36 yard

Converting square feet to square yards, we divide by 9, since there are 9 square feet in a square yard.

3700 square feet = 411 square yards

Calculating cubic yards, we multiply 411 square yards by 1/36 of a yard.

I get 11.42 cubic yards. So you are safe getting 12 cubic yards.

Good luck,

Paul

How it Works
### Stone and Mulch Calculators

As an example, let's use 500 square feet to be mulched at a

3" depth.

### For Your Information

3" depth.

- First, the depth must be converted to feet. To convert inches to feet, simply divide inches by 12, the number of inches in a foot.

So for our example: 3 inches divided by 12 equals a 0.25 foot depth. - Now that we have the depth in feet, we can multiply the depth by the area.

So for our example: 0.25 foot depth times 500 square feet equals 125 cubic feet. - If you are calculating 0.5, 2, or 3, cubic foot bags, simply divide 125 cubic feet by the size of the bag.

So for our example: if we are using 2 cubic foot bags, we can divide 125 cubic feet by 2 which equals 62.5 bags. - If you are calculating cubic yards, we need to convert 125 cubic feet to cubic yards by dividing by 27. One cubic yard is equal to 27 cubic feet, see the diagram below.

So for our example: 125 cubic feet divided by 27 equals 4.63 cubic yards.

- 1 inch equals 0.08333 feet
- 1.5 inches equals 0.125 feet

Hi Paula:

A mathematical logic question.

You need to get all of the measurements in the same units.

- A cubic yard is 1 yard x 1 yard x 1 yard

- equals 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft

- equals 27 cubic feet,

so once you have the volume of the pipe in cubic feet, you divide by 27 to get the volume in cubic yards.

- Volume of a cylinder (the pipe) is the cross sectional area X length.

- Area equals Pi x r squared.

- equals 22/7 x 1 x 1

equals 3.14#####

times length (20)

equals 62.857### cubic feet volume

divide by 27 cubic feet

equals 2.328### cubic yards.

- The answer is always the easy part.

- what is important is knowing exactly what the question is, and

- determing what calculations are needed to get the answer.

Wasn't that better than if I'd just said 2 1/3 cubic yards?

Cheers

Hi Bob:

1 cubic yard is 3ft by 3 ft by 3 ft.

3 times 3 times 3 equals 27, so

1 cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet.

2 1/2 inches divided by 12 inches equals .2083333 feet

196 square feet times .208333 feet equals 40.83333 cubic feet

40.83333 cubic ft divided by 27 cubic ft equals 1.5123456 cu yards.

That may be ok for the US, but in Europe you would need cubic metres.

I yd = 0.914 m, 1 cubic yd = 0.914 x .914 x .1914 = 0.764

So 14.66 cu. yds is 14.66 x 0.764 = 11.2 cubic metres - with a bit of luck!

- Calculate
- Calculate your area (see below)
- Calculate your volume; Multiply area times the depth, this will be volume in cubic feet
- Calculate your cubic yards; Divide cubic feet by 27 to convert to cubic yards and this is your answer.
- Where (ft2) = square foot, (ft3) = cubic foot, (yd3) = cubic yard

- or i'll do it 66 and 2/3 cu Yds

792, minimum (assuming you're putting the 4x8 side up). Each paver is four by eight inches, or 32 square inches. Since there's 144 square inches per foot, we know that each paver is 0.2222 square feet (32/144). 176 square feet divided by 0.2222 square feet per paver is 792 pavers.

The answer is 40.123456789

To convert square feet to square inches x 144 (i.e 12 x 12)

1200 x 144 = 374400

Multiply by 5 (depth) to give cubic inches

374400 x 5 = 1872000

To convert cubic inches to cubic feet divide by 46656 (36 x 36 x 36)

1872000 / 46656 = 40.123456789

Hope this helps,

Matt
