SOURCE: Clutch vibration and jerking at slow speeds.

Check the drive belt. It probably has chunks missing or at least has flat spots (narrow spots) that cause the belt to jump every time it goes around a pulley. That will set up a heck of a vibration. Also check the pulleys for free movement. The drive belt is above the blade drive belt....

SOURCE: Craftsman 42 inch cutting deck riding lawn mower.

Some of the 42 inch Craftsman mowers Have a cable that goes from the blade leaver to the deck some have a linkage if it has the cable check it to see if it has broken. Find where it connects to the deck pully and pull on the cable wire not the cable cover and see if if comes out also make sure it is connected to the top of the idler pully. If it has a linkage there is a clip that holdes that linkage to the deck it most likely came off.

SOURCE: murray 42'' riding lawnmower owners manual

www.murray.com

Locate the tag with your model and serial number on the tractor. Be sure you get the number EXACT or it won't work.
Go to Murray's website and download it. They usually have parts listings at the back of the Owner's Manual

NORMALLY THERE IS A KNOB OR LEAVER FOR YOUR PARKING BRAKE AND IS CONNECTED TO THAT PEDAL BRAKE TO LOCK IT UP FOR PARKING, THROUGH A SERIES OF RODS CHECK THOSE RODS IF STILL ATTACH TOGETHER, PRETTY SURE THAT IS THE PROBLEM, GOOD LUCK

1999 m2 cyclone front disc seems loose but bolts are tight

Its a floating disc on the wear section where the brake pads ride, it shouldn't be un moveable, but it shouldn't be sloppy either. The center section should be TIGHT and firmly attached to the rim tho.

Mowing right along and suddenly the tractor won't go move

it's 1 of 5 likely things
The drive belt from the engine to the transaxle is totally slipping or broken
The linkage from the control pedal to the transaxle is faulty.
The transaxle is broken (not user fixable)
The by-pass rod is pulled out
The brake pedal is pushed or the linkage is stuck in the "brake" position.

I have Craftsman 42" lawn tractor with the automatic transmission. It runs fine but it is not pulling a grade now. The belt seems tight, what could be the problem?

As you attempt the incline grab the clutch pedal with your heel and pull it towards you if it starts pulling correctly you have a belt problem . If it makes no difference you are having hydro pump problems

My mower will not go into geat either

That can happen if the belt comes of,it allows clutch pedal to over travel and if the retaining pin is not in the rod it can come loose. There is a 1/2 brake adjust nut on the actuator,if you remove that nut the actuator will come off and you can put it through the rod and reinstall it,there may be a actuator return spring that you may have to contend with but it is a fairly easy job, make sure you don't over tighten the nut, that is the brake adjustment, the actuator should have some play in it,if the brakes seem too tight after you install it back the nut off till they feel ok.
