Will need to know what tv you have, but you are right it is probably your input button. if you pushed it on your remote then there should be an input button on remote. otherwise you will have to go into the tv menu and setup it up there. if you respond with model and make of tv, might get more info.
If your TV has progressive scan capability, you may be able to view the on-screen setup menu via the recorder - select 'SETUP' press 'ENTER' on your DVD recorder's remote to bring up the menu - with the remote arrow buttons, scroll down to select 'VIDEO' then 'PROGRESSIVE' - highlight it then set it to OFF (you cannot do this with a TV that does not support progressive scan from this unit). Once done, exit the setup menu and it should work fine with all the other settings. If your TV doesn't have progressive scan, connect the DVD recorder to one which does and turn its progressive output off there. I assume you still have the user manual for your recorder (if not, you can download it online for free as an Adobe document - .pdf. Page 73 details the setup steps for this model). I hope this tip helps somewhat.
With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF. Owner's Manual page 61, link http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/pdf/DVPNS57P.pdf

Hi,
follow the steps it may help !!
Press STOP button.
? If playing a disc, press the STOP button twice so that ?STOP?, appears on the display.
Press and hold P.SCAN button on the remote control for over 5 seconds.
? Pressing and holding the button for over 5 seconds will select "Progressive Scan" and "Interlace Scan"
alternately.
? When you select P.SCAN, "P.SCAN" will appear on the display.
? To set P.Scan mode for DivX discs, press the P.SCAN button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds with no disc in the unit (?'NO DISC" on the display), then load the DivX disc and play.
regards

Try holding down the p.scan button on your remote until the p.scan sign on the unit disappears. Then you should be able to go into setup and put it back to interlace. I had the same problem and thats how I fixed it.
