It needs a new filter or the filter needs washing.

If it works without the filter then it means that there is something clogged in the system. If you continue to use your Dyson without the pre-filter added then dust will seep into the motor and can eventually destroy it.

I suggest you take apart the tubes and check all the inspection airways to see if there is any dust clogged. Also check by the beater bar up the main dust channel which is sited next to the beater bar/roller brush.

If you have been using the Dyson without a pre-filter for some time now your motor could already be damaged. Dyson fit sealed motors generally but dust can often seep in regardless. That's why there is a pre-filter fitted.

Machine shut off when suction release button was accidentally pushed. Now it won't come back on! What should I do?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you've described sounds very unusual. DC23 has a suction relief trigger underneath the hand grip of the wand handle, but this isn't connected to the vacuum's electrical components and shouldn't cause the vacuum to cut out in use.

However like most Dyson vacuums, DC23 is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat. This may occur if the machine is used when blocked, or if the filter is overdue for a wash. It should reset automatically after it's had around 2 hours to cool down, but to prevent it from happening again please follow the steps shown in our online support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/check-telescopic-wand-step-1-turbine-head

In normal use, we recommend washing the lifetime pre-filter at least once every 3 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue, but if you'd like further help or advice after giving this a try, please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Switching on and off no suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC14 is engineered to shut off if it starts to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, and the filter may also need a wash.

In normal use we recommend washing DC14's pre-filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

To check for any blockages, follow each of the steps shown in our online support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc14/dc14-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

If you'd like some further help from our experts after giving these steps a try, please call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU) so we can provide assistance.

Relief valve opens on my dyson dc24 when i use it with the canister on

Hi Christine, it's Jack at Dyson.

From your description it sounds as if the suction relief valve is activating because there may still be a blockage in the machine missed when you checked previously. There could also be an issue with the washable pre-filter housed within the cyclone pack.

For help locating the blockage, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

You may also want to wash the filters again, ensuring you follow the steps shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow both filters to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing them.

If you'd like further help or advice after you've given this a try, please contact our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson d14 animal keeps cutting in and out. When it's on, the hole above where the filter is, keeps making a loud suction noise and it won't clean up hair and dirt.

Vacuum Cleaners require AIr-Flow. Your machine is not getting any air-flow. The noise you hear is a valve opening up to prevent your machine from overheating and burning out the motor.
You probably have an obstruction somewhere in the machine. Dysons are kind of known for that in the vacuum cleaner world.
Check all air channels and clean them out. If that fixes the problem you still might have issues that caused it to clog up.

I posted the part second because it takes 24 hours to complete it.
Be sure you wash your Washable Pre-filter. It needs to dry for 24 hours. Never put it back in the machine wet.

Once it is completely dry reinstall the pre-filter and your machine should be back to normal operating functions.

Let me know f this helps.

My suction is not working...I have cleaned the entire machine and it has no suction. What now?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, it's possible that there's a blockage in the system, and you may need to give the filter a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your contact details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Jack

Dyson DC7 full Kit, with one belt does not get suction to head.

Not absolutely sure about this, so your feedback will be very welcome.
What follows applies to the DC14, which I think is similar in this respect:
Stand behind the machine, holding the handle at a 45 degree angle. Locate and remove the airway inspection valve (bottom of handle, right side). Where the valve plugs in there is a square plastic moulding that should slide up and down. Snap that square plastic piece up towards the ceiling. After it snaps into place, the machine should stand upright.
Good luck, and please let me know how you get on!

Dyson DC07 shuts down after 5-10 minutes of use and horrible suction!

I have had this problem on two dysons and have solved it by replacing the so called lifetime pre-filter. The problem is not the washable blue sponge but the material gauze filter in the plastic surround.

To see if this is your problem try removing the whole filter (i.e. the filter with the blue sponge inside - you need to remove both bits not just the sponge).

If you do a quick vacuum test for a few minutes then see what effect this has on the suction.

If you need a new part try somewhere like here (you'll need to chose for the right model) : http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dyson/dc07/p/1086/716/6/420625/875479/lifetime-pre-motor-dyson-.html

As I say this has fixed both of mine.
