How to extend range

Difficult one to answer. You cannot adjust anything internal to the router to extend the wireless broadcast range. however, there are a few things you can try to make the most of the range it has. Internal walls and furnishings all play a part in reducing the effective range of the router. The model you specify has the 3x3 MIMO antenna array so should give you a decent range, at least 50 metres indoors. Keep the router as high and as far away from walls as you can, this will greatly improve the range. try to ensure the router is not screened by large near by metal objects such as steel PC cases, these will absorb wireless signals and reduce the range.

When the faucet is turned on outside there is a banging sound almost like a hammer. Under the sink in the closet bathroom the pipes are even shaking when this banging is happening. What is going on?

This is an occurance called "Water Hammer" or Hydraulic Shock, which is caused by a sudden change in fluid (water) pressure. You can try a few things, but ulness you're handy and confident in your skills, you should consult a Licensed Plumber for repair. Either way, you should fix the problem as soon as you can, As over time, this can cause damage to the pipes. There are "screw in" or "solder in" air chambers designed specifically to eliminate this problem, by allowing an area of expansion. You can try and reduce the household water pressure Secure the waterpipes with clamps to the wall or reduce movement. For the immediate, short term solution, try turning the faucet off slower to reduce the sudden pressure change.

StarLogic- Out of range

The computer needs its screen resolution reducing or changing in aspect ratio to suit the StarLogic monitor. Use a previously-working monitor and reduce the resolution on the computer to 1024 x 768 pixels or less (right-click an unused part of the desktop, click Properties and select Settings; slide the resolution slider to the left to adjust). The StarLogic monitor will now work; plug it in - do the resolution adjustment again as above, but increasing the resolution until you are happy. Going this way around, your computer will failsafe back to the previous (lower) resolution if the monitor says Out Of Range again, so you cannot lose the display along the way..

Monitor displaying out of range message

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!

This usually happens when you select a resolution or a refresh rate that is beyond the monitor range. For example if your monitor supports a max. resolution of 1024x768 then if you give it a signal of 1600x1200 it will display out of range.

Solution of this problem is to reduce the resolution or refresh rate frequency.

Changing screen resolution in Windows XP: First right-click on the desktop and then left click on Properties from the menu that appears.

The display properties dialogue box will appear as shown in fig 1.1 below, click on the settings tab at the top right of the box.

The areas worth noting are:

Screen Resolution
This slide bar is what you use to change the resolution, the options you have will depend on your graphics card and monitor, but the standard options are 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864.

Normally the default (in XP) is set to 800x600 which means the display will be 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high.

How to Change the Screen Refresh Rate of Your Monitor loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.

Alternatively, right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
  3. Click the Monitor tab, and then click the screen refresh rate that you want to use.
NOTE:
  • The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
  • If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
  • Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.
