Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

I had this same issue. I think I finally resolved the issue by turning off HDMI Control (HDMI-CEC) on my Blu-Ray player. I had the Blu-Ray player plugged into a Yamaha RX-V375 (almost an identical receiver). I think the source of the issue was that my TV does not not support HDMI-CEC. Turning off HDMI-CEC on the Blu-Ray player fixed the issue. The Yamaha receiver already had HDMI Control disabled, and all the other HDMI devices appeared to have HDMI-CEC disabled or not supported.

In my case, the symptoms of the issue were that I would see the correct picture for a second on power up, then the picture would go away. For the Blu-Ray HDMI input selected on the receiver, I would see a solid purple screen and a blank screen for the rest of the inputs. Sometimes switching inputs fixed the issue, sometimes power cycling would fix it, but it was getting very annoying.

Did you connect the cables right? Did you hook the white cable to the white socket etc ?

Does the Yamaha have HDMI inputs? Usually you would connect the directv and dvd player via individual HDMI cables to the Yamaha (input)and then the Yamaha (output) to your TV also via HDMI.

Can't be done. Your version of HDMI firmware and hardware in your receiver have "handshake" and "HDCP" incompatability issues that are too costly to fix. Your receiver has version 1.1 HDMI and the current version is 1.3b and soon to be 1.4. HDMI is not to blame though; it's RIAA, the recording industry that keeps changing audio and video codecs to protect against "copyright infringement" It's a ROYAL LOAD of !@#$%^&*. I am in the industry and have been avoiding HDMI at all cost! Too many issues! even with current BLURAY players they are using RJ45's on the back to allow software updates to keep in line with all the new codecs. If you want more info on HDMI and it's many issues; google "HDMI problems" and you can read forever!. Sorry for the bad news, but it is the fact. Hope this at least helps in understanding that there is nothing wrong with your product! it's the recording industry!

Depending on the model of your Yamaha, you will have to go into setup of it. In there go to the input settings and select what should be done. Example: for DVD select HDMI as input. I take it you are using the HDMI out as well? This is what I had to do on my RX-V3800n

Can't pass HDMI thru this or any other receiver with version 1.1,1.2,1.2a,or 1.2b. HDMI is riddled with issues! it's not Yamaha, it's HDMI. The current version 1.3b is working "so far" If your receiver is still under warranty, Yamaha will update the software and hardware at N/C. If it's out of warranty, Run HDMI directly from source to TV and Audio to your receiver via optical or digital coaxial.
