SOURCE: Burner flame shuts off during use and then you smell gas

all ovens, when they reach temperature they go off and on to kip the temperature, but if you smell gas the oven ignitor needs replacing, the ignitor gets red hot to ignite the burner ,but when ignitor does not get hot enough, it will have a delayed, that's the reason you smell gas.

SOURCE: pilot lights but when ignition pops back up the flame goes out

will either be the unitrol control box or the thermocouple, when you push down you are holding two magnets together and waiting for a small charge to be created from the probe in the flame , if this is not working you have no charge and the magnets won;t stick to allow the valve to open, change the thermo and see if that works first, its way cheaper than a new controler

SOURCE: furnace flame goes low fan stays on

if the gas pressure is good on inlet and outlet of valve u might wanna chk the burner trays and manifold for flakes, dirt, spider webs ect... once u kno the passages are clear from obstruction you can focus on the mechanical. (sounds like gas valve may be getting weak and not able to open fully)

If the pilot light goes out will the gas shut off automatically

yes it will, the pilot flame hits a flame sensing device called a thermocouple this device sends a signal to the gas valve and shuts the main valve when therre isnt a flame signal; however, its never a bad idea to manually shut off the gas when youve lost pilot flame.

Why does the flame shut off before a hot to warm temperature can be achieved

I would question the Thermo couple. It pretty much runs the whole show. Inexpensive quick fix. It's the small tubing that is connected to the gas valve. The other end is a bulb that sits over the pilot flame.. Remove the old and match it up at the hardware store. Install new coupler ensuring bulb is directly over the pilot flame Common iten. The thermocoupler alks to the gas valve. If the pilot flame extinguishes (goes out) the bulb cools and shuts down the gas valve so the pilot gas feed doesn't permit raw gas to accumulate, avoiding the need emergency Services. . You will not get the heater to fire until the bulb is good and hot. The red push button ,when depressed will allow the pilot flame to be lit. Hold it down until the heater fires, indicating the T-coupler has reached its operating temp.Good Luck-Ned

My Kenmore Elite will not heat up.how long should the ignitor stay lit up?

The fuse (white skinny thang next to the control stat on the blower housing) shuts off power going to the gas assembly. Unlike electric models this fuse only kills power to the gas assembly. if you HAVE power getting to the gas assembly and the ignitor comes on then when the ignitor gets to 1800f the flame sensore shuts it down. That shutdown allows the ignitor to now become a thermocouple. Now if it cools down before ignition the gas is shut down. Most times though what happens is gas comes out and hits that there hotasz ignitor. It theerfore stays hot while the flames is burning. how long is the burn? Well that all depends. If the dryer is full of wet clothes it gonna stay on longer but only till the temp gets to 10f or thereabouts. NOTE: it does not stay on all the time or else them clithes would be burned all to hell and back. here is my home movie of how it works:

Ruud 90+ Model UGRA 10EZAJS Trips Out

Check for condensation buildup in the Induction Blower housing. The condensate tubes or canister may be blocked and causing the diaphragm switch to trip the unit out causing the burners to shut down.

I have a newer tappan heater and get 4 blinks on led for error code the unit starts up fine and has flame but flame goes off when blower kicks on

Problem: Your furnace will not ignite the gas to produce heat for your home. When a furnace has a bad ignitor what I see most of the time is the following sequence of operation:

1. Thermostat calls for heat. 2. Draft inducer motor starts. 3. Pressure switch attached by a small plastic or rubber tube senses the negative pressure produced by the draft inducer and closes. 4. Draft inducer runs for 30 seconds to a minute before you hear a gas hissing sound. The ignitor did not glow, the flame sensor (a small metal probe about 1/8" in diameter, with a white porcelain base) does not sense the flame, so after 8 to 10 seconds the hissing sounds stops with no ignition of gas to heat your home. Your furnace shuts down and goes into a lock out condition until you turn your power switch back off and on again. Then the sequence starts all over again with no ignition of the gas. Solution: You probably need to purchase and install a new ignitor. I would suggest that you inspect your ignitor closely for cracks. Make sure you do not touch the ignitor with your bare hands. If you do not visually see a crack, then you could have a furnace control board problem or a limit, rollout switch problem. The furnace's control board might not be supplying the voltage to the ignitor. If your furnace lights and the gas stays on for 8 to 10 seconds, then shuts right back off, then you need to clean your flame sensor with light sand paper or steel wool. You might need a new flame sensor, but most of the time they can be cleaned an will work well after cleaning.

I have a freezer that does not work it clicks on for a few sec then cuts off what could be wrong

The clicking is the electronic ignitor trying to light the gas.
Either it's not getting any gas to light , or the flame sensor is not telling the computer that there is flame , so it shuts down the gas.
Most fridges have a small shut off right at the gas valve in the back of the fridge , it might be turned off. Put your ear up to the back cover of the fridge , if you hear it sparking and then you hear flame but it goes out after a few seconds , than it is the flame sensor. If you never hear the flame blowing , than it is not getting gas. Could be several different reasons. If you have disconected your tanks , maybe the gas has just not made it to the fridge yet. Newer ignitors try 3 times and then shut down if no flame is detected. Old ones only try once.

I have an amana air command 90 furnace. the burner won't light.

This unit goes in steps, 1-- thru--4 Step 1, vent fan blower motor runs & prove thru the air tube, which closes a switch and tells the circuit board to go to step---2 Step 2 lights the glow plug and goes to step 3 automatically, Step 3, opens the gas valve and send in gas thru the long venturi tubes which lights from the glow plug and on the last tube, theres a rod that sticks into the flame, if no flame or not working properly, it will shut down the starting sequences and retry for 4-times and automaticaly lockout till unplug and start over. (whever step it stops at, then thats where your problem is!
