Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Open Question

How can I replace the power cord on a Kenmore Washer, Model 110.2022*410? I've no idea where to open it so I can replace the power cord (two-prong non-polarized cord).

I've tried to search youtube but none of the ones I've seen are like mine. BTW, the part number is either W10132081 or W10132081A. I do hope it doesn't matter.

This is common issue. Due to some building codes the 3-prong configuration is no longer used in homes. The wiring is similar with one exception. The 4-wire plug uses an additional (WHITE) NEUTRAL wire.

Here's a brief explanation of how the plugs are configured:

Dryer 3 prong wire configuration:

RED - 120 VAC
GREEN - GROUND
BLACK - 120 VAC

Dryer 4 prong wire configuration:

RED - 120 VAC
GREEN - GROUND
BLACK - 120 VAC
WHITE - NEUTRAL

BOTH plugs provide the SAME source voltages to your appliance:

220 VAC - provided across the RED and BLACK leads are what drives your heating circuitry.
120 VAC - usually tapped of the BLACK wire is used to run the drive motor and timer on MOST dryers.

The wire terminal block in the back of the dryer should have a black, white, and red wire running to it from the dryer wiring harness. With the 4 prong plug, simply attach the BLACK, WHITE and RED wires at the terminal block ensuring that you match the RED and BLACK wires as they are configured and attach the WHITE wire at the remaining terminal lug. Make sure you screw them all down securely. Attach the remaining GREEN wire to chassis (dryer frame) ground. I hope this helps you.

You can go to the Sears Parts Direct website and type in your Model number. It will return both an exploded view and parts list, with pricing for replacement parts. You can also order from them, and they can tell you stock status as well.

Splice a new plug, but get a good one. Tough with a scew to hold it together

  • White wire goes on the silver terminal.
  • Black wire goes on the gold terminal.
  • Green (or bare ground) wire goes on the green terminal

SOURCE: kenmore microwave model number 401.80084700 Displaying -SE-/-5E-

-SE- error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

There are three ways you can get it fixed:

DE34-00178X SWITCH MEMBRANE $20.30
ref#53 membrane keypad
take yours off as in the video at our site, peel the old keypad off as in this handy guide with pictures , clean the surface, stick on the new keypad
order by part number here
(We can do this job for you for a total of $70.25, but as you can see, the other two options are more practical and economical)

DE94-01647A ASY CONTROL PANEL $39.01
ref#66 control panel frame with keypad
take yours off as in the video at our site, disconnect the keypad strip as shown here, move your circuit board to the new frame, reinstall
order by part number here

DE94-01648A ASY CONTROL, BOX $58.12
ref#59 complete control panel assembly with frame, keypad and circuit board
take yours off as in the video at our site, then install the new one
order by part number here

If these parts are not in stock, they should be available in about a week or so.

Kenmore 700 dryer with a three prong cord is being converted to four prong. Is there a drawing of what wires by color going to the proper screw location?

There's a ground strap wire (green/yellow) attached to the dryer cabinet and connected to the center terminal where the white neutral wire of the power cord is connected. Disconnect this ground strap wire and remove the 3-prong power cord from the terminal block taking note where the wires are connecedt to. Connect the 4-prong power cord in the same way same wire colors of the 3-prong cord are connected to the terminal block. Connect the ground strap wire to the remaining fourth wire (green/yellow). Just do the reverse when converting 4-prong to 3-prong. The link below might enlighten you further on this matter.

I need help in changing the 4 prong to a 3 prong cord

It would be a better and safer idea to change the receptacle from a three prong to a four prong. You would also be in compliance with the electrical code. That being said, here is the info you will need to go either way.

KENMORE ELITE TOP LOAD

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
cord.
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.

I need to change the power cord on our duet dryer from a 4 prong to a 3 prong The 3 prong does not have a neutral wire does that matter?

I think you need to read the following link to make sure you aren't violating any electrical codes, first:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

Yes, a 3-prong DOES have a NEUTRAL wire. That would be the WHITE terminal. A 3-prong does not have a separate ground. The NEUTRAL is usually grounded at the appliance casing by a jumper wire.

Read in the "Additional Notes" section on how to convert from a 4-prong to 3-prong. Also note that some of the newer appliances require a 4-prong plug in order to run correctly. I have a Kenmore HE3 model dryer that is currently using a 3-prong power cord. Since this model Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool, and is identical to the Duet, you should be okay with a 3-prong plug.

Purchase a 3 prong cord at a home improvement center. and replace your 4 prong cord. all you need is a screwdriver.

Yes, you can use any safety 4-prong as long as it is a dryer cord rated at 220V.
