Question about Craftsman Garden

Open Question

I have a Craftsman Dyt 4000--24hp and 48"deck. It seems as the transmission is leaking a little at a time. Can I add transmission oil to this sealed unit? Model944-604002

SOURCE: replacing the blades on a craftsman dyt 4000

Not a hard job, but you will need a couple of tools. First, you will need a wrench that fits the nut that is holding the blade on. I prefer a closed end wrench, but an open end will do. Second, you will need a blade changing tool. The brand name is called a Blade Hog. It attaches to the deck and holds the blade in place so you can turn the nut. Raise the deck as high as it will go, attach the Blade Hog, and then loosen and remove the nut. Be sure and pay attention to which side is up on the old blade and put the new one on in the same manner.

hope this helps,
c

SOURCE: The right transmission on my

The type of oil I would use would be fully synthetic motor oil, 5w 30. It is basically the same as hydraulic oil.

SOURCE: rear main seal leaks..does this affect transmission??

A leaking rear main seal will not cause your transmission to leak.

The transmission has its own seal and should not leak because of the engine rear main seal.

Due to the labor involved in replacing the rear main seal on the engine, it is best if you replace the front transmission seal at the same time if possible.

Installation varies on different vehicles but the principles are the same.

SOURCE: front fork leaking oil from bottom of the seal.

Before you take it to the shop try this.Get some camera film,Cut the notched edge of it and trim the top to an angle of 45 deg..Slide this up into the fork seal and working it up and down, slide it all the way around the seal. When you get the feel of it,you can feel tiny bits of grit. This will clean the grit out 99% of the time.I always keep a piece of film in the toolbox.

SOURCE: oil leak problem with 1996 toyota camry

I am going to see a mechanic - my trusted mechanic who does not nickel and dime me - to see what this is. I have the same problem and he told me he has never done this job on a Camry and is unsure. Given the miles, he has suggested that maybe it is time to part ways with the car. I am going to ask him if he will put some florescent dye in it and let me drive it for 50-100 mi and then check to see where the leak is and fix it. Let you know what happens. I have to try, the car is solid.

I have a DYT 4000 from 2004. Cutting the lawn today, about half way through something inside the engine popped (sounded like a belt) and the tractor shut off. I tried to restart and the starter was FLYING...

Sounds like an internal engine failure. Take the spark plugs out and stick a screw driver in the the cylinders. Then turn the engine by hand, and see if the pistons move. My guess is one or both won't, but if they do then you'll need to do more testing like a compression test or leak down tests. You may even need a partial tear down to find the problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is possible that it is repairable rather than having to purchase a whole engine.

24 hp intek has no power when under a load mainly when blades are engaged blows smoke like crazy.i pretty sure rings are shot, but the no powers got me stumped. valves are adjusted properly. i thought it...

I have good news for you, well sort of,the rings are probably ok.The intek engine is noted for blown head gaskets. They leak between the cylinder and the push rod chamber.A way to check is to start the engine for a minute, turn it off and pull the dipstick out,if you see vapors coming out of the oil fill tube it has a leaking head gasket. To check to see which cylinder is leaking, check the plugs, there will be a oil residue on one or even a brown crusty build up on the side that has the leaking head gasket. If you remove the head you will probably see a small piece of the gasket is missing on one side of it.

Craftsman DYT 4000, 24 hp 48" deck. While I was mowing, the blades stopped turning, started again, and then stopped. I shut down, all looked OK, tried to start and nothing. No click, nothing. Any ideas?

there is a fuse in engine compartment that might have blown causing the engine or blades not to start but what probably happened was something got caught in the blades check under the deck & see if there is & also try spinning blades by hand & see what happens
