SOURCE: cannot remove pto clutch assy

You can use an impact wrench, but more than likely the bolt is unscrewed and you will need to get a set of pulley pullers to pull the clutch.

SOURCE: LX176 Electric Clutch Slips

The clutch is basically a big 12volt elecrto magnet. When it gets power it grabs the magnet and turns the blades. Usually they either work or they dont.
I would check the relay first. Then check for a loose wire or bad connection.
If it comes down to a failed clutch then be prepared to spend between 150 and 300 bucks. remove the deck and unplug the 2 wire connector from the clutch then remove the center bolt from the crankshaft and the clutch will slide off the end of the shaft. There will be a bracket or pin that holds the clutch and prevents it from spinning. Pay attention to how the bracket or pin is situated and be sure to reinstall the new clutch the same way.

I have a cub cadet ags2130 that stalled with the pto engaged. Now the engine will not start due to the pto not disengaging. How do I disengage the pto.

Sounds the clutch may have failed but try just unplug it just it an electrical problem. Also check to see any of the v-belt cords came loose and wrap themselves up in the clutch. I had one a couple years that this was the problem.

Another thing you could do is completely remove the PTO clutch to see you have a bearing failure in it.

Remove clutch

I'm assuming you're referring to the PTO clutch on the bottom of the engine shaft. There's a 5/8" bolt that goes up through the clutch into the shaft. Remove it, but then turn it back in about 10 turns and use a wheel puller to start getting it off. You might have to c-clamp the PTO/clutch top and bottom together to get both pieces off. Once the assembly starts coming down the shaft, you can probably remove the wheel puller, remove the bolt completely, and pull the PTO/Clutch off by hand. Be sure to unplug the PTO/clutch before removing it. Also, many of these have a spacing washer on top of the PTO/Clutch that comes off in the process. BE SURE to put it back on before replacing the PTO/Clutch. DO NOT hit anything with a hammer to try to break it loose - you'll most likely NOT get the part off and most probably WILL damage necessary parts.

Good diagnostic work, uncleparroth! By removing power to the PTO, you've proven that the PTO clutch has stuck/frozen mechanically. If you are mechanically inclined, you can remove the PTO clutch assembly and disassemble it. You could luck out, find something as simple as a broken spring and save a lot of money. Nothing to lose but your time. On the other hand it might not be repairable and you'll have to 'spring' (sorry for the pun) for a new PTO clutch which will cost about $200. Good luck!

MOWER blades WILL NOT SHUTOFF

sounds like a electro clutch engage type system

maybe your electro-clutch engage switch is faulty or a wire is connected the wrong way

was the clutch replaced recenlty and was is compatiable ?

or maybe you have a faulty clutch to test try

remove plug lead from plug

disconnect wires @pto clutch and apply 12 volt directly to clutch then remove voltage - if clutch engages then disengages the clutch is good it should click on then off if it does then its a switch fault
replace pto switch

cheers paul

hope its helps

Have a john deere lawn tractor. Blade will not

Check both belts on deck. Check if the clutch is clicking in. If not it will most likely need a new pto switch.
