The machine is locked up. I've tried checking for thread behind the bobbin case, but cannot get the bobbin case to move.

Check your owner's manual troubleshooting section.

Assuming the machine is jammed with thread:

Try removing all the thread, remove the needle, the presser foot and the needleplate (if it is removable). If there is a thread tangle in the bobbin area, try to snip the thread loops and gently pull with tweezers or needlenose pliers. The best thing would be to get the bobbin case out of the machine. Once the bobbin case is out, the thread should be pretty easy to remove.

Why does my Janome mb4 keeps shredding its top thread?

Change your needle and if it continues to happen, change the thread. Most likely your needle and thread are not compatible, ie the thread is too large for the needle's eye. Also, inexpensive thread will shred.

Janome MB4 wont sew breaks threads really bad?

1--thread breaks really easy if it is a couple of months old
may be new to you but in the shop for a long time
2---thread breaks easy if the incorrect needle eye size is used for the thread thicjness
3-- thread breaks easy in the needle tension is incorrect
4-- thread breaks easy if the needle is threaded from the wrong side ( look for a small groove down the back of the needle and thread from that side so the thread sits in that groove )
5-- thread breaks easy if the needle /hook timing is a bit out as the hook pierces the thread instead of picking it up cleanly from the recessed section at the eye

find another repair shop because if the dealer couldn't fix it under warranty, they sure cannot fix it when out of warranty and for money

checks that the strip wire and strip wire sensor, this worked well.
(the strip threads is the small spring by which you spend the thread to thread)

Will not pick up bobbin thread

Unusual for this machine. Check to be sure the needle is inserted with the flat side to the back of the machine. If it is, remove the needle plate, bobbin and bobbin case. Turn the hand wheel slowly toward you and see if the point of the hook is above or below the eye of the needle when the hook point is aligned behind the needle. If the eye is above the point of the hook the machine is out of time and best taken to qualified technician.
