Not all 42" blades are the same length. Remove one of the old ones and compare it to one of the old ones.
Some decks are timed so one of the blades needs to point front to back and the other side to side. Also check that the new blades are seated on the spindles correctly.

The lever to engage the blades on my Cub Cadet rider LTX 1042 KW has no resistance the the blades do not engage. Did a part possibly break off or come loose?

The blades are engaged electrically via the PTO on the engine shaft.
Check the connector and wiring to the PTO unit, or the electrical plug on the engage switch.

My cutmaster 42 blows 3 times and won't work

Blows 3 times? Explain... Pops 3 times maybe and wont keep running? If this is what you mean, then it is either a timing issue (Flywheel key sheered), or blade is loose or bent. The blade helps to keep the mower running by balance and centrifical force. The blade IS on??? Do you have a link to the actual picture of the mower? Is this a walk behind or rider? Are the blades ran by belts or directly from the engine?

Check your tire pressure first, uneven tore pressure will cause this problem. On the rear of cutting deck on both sides there are height adjustments, if your deck has a rear roller this also can be adjusted to compensate,If your a stout person sitting on tractor can cause unevenes.

Murray rider quit abruptly.

were you mowing at the time? if you didn't disengage the blades, the engine will not start, everything will seem "dead". if that's not it, check for a blown fuse
