Does anyone know of research being conducted on adhesion blockers or barriers? And does anyone have any advice on the prevention of the onset of bowel obstructions? Thank you in advance.

My wife has had her whole bowel removed and also 2 meters of small intestine - she has iliostomy now but it would be good for you to get as much information as you can from reputable doctors and make an informed analysis before it gets too much worse... Hope all goes well for you...

Belly button swelling problem?

get it checked by a doctor - If button is sticking out it may be an abdominal hernia.
If it is - part of the bowel can get pinched in the hernia tear and if this occurs you need to be rushed to emergency in a hospital !

How is it fixed if it is this.
By a painful operation to sew a mesh in between the muscle and skin layers of your belly ! (only painful post operation for about 2 weeks - no heavy lifting )

if it is an abdominal hernia and she is in pain her bowel might be being pinched . If her bowel is pinched it is an urgent life threatening condition ! Seek medical assistance

I am speaking from my own experience from having a belly button that was sticking out (Umbilical hernia) that I was advised to get an operation to fix the hernia and that there was a risk of having my bowel getting pinched which is life threatening !
Had a hernia operation to fix it. Was also there when I was a baby but it sealed up but came back later in life .

Advise getting an ambulance if the pain is intense.

I I have a parastomal hernia. Will losing weight hel make this hernia smaller?

no
reference www.colcostomyassociation.org.uk
by making an incision ( read tear ) in the muscle, a potential weakness is created
A parastomal hernia can occur when the edges of the stoma come away from the muscle , allowing the abdominal contents ( usually a section of the bowel) to bulge out
the fix is a surgical process to fit a mesh over the tear to hold the bowel or protrusion in place
the danger to you is that if left untreated it could become strangulated in which case the bowel after the hernia dies resulting in a serious operation or ***** of the patient
loosing weight will not put the protrusion back in place.

as fixya site is not a medical forum, this should be discussed with your doctor or bowel specialist and their advice be heeded

What causes a stomach hernia

Ever think to ask your doctor ?

What causes pains in the stomach?

Abdominal pain is caused by inflammation (for example, appendicitis, diverticulitis, colitis), by stretching or distention of an organ (for example, obstruction of the intestine, blockage of a bile duct by gallstones, swelling of the liver with hepatitis), or by loss of the supply of blood to an organ (for example, ischemic colitis). To complicate matters, however, abdominal pain also can occur for unclear reasons without inflammation, distention, or loss of blood supply. An important example of this latter type of pain is the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). These latter types of pain are often referred to as functional pain because no recognizable (visible) causes for the pain have been found.

What is a 1.5 cm hernia filled with omental tissue?

A hernia is a hole, or split in the muscle tissue that keeps your insides in. When you have a hernia, The omentum inside can pop through the muscle and start pushing on the underside of your skin. You would be able to feel a bulge on your abdomen, under your skin, where there isn't supposed to be one. "Omentum" is Latin for "curtin". The omental tissue is a sort of curtain around your abdominal organs inside your abdomen, including your intestines.

Omentum Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

If you have a hernia, the pressure inside your abdomen will push the omental tissue through the hernia first. The omental tissue is made of Peritonium

Peritoneum Wikipedia the free encyclopedia.

If the hernia is small. then maybe only the omental tissue will pop through. If the hernia grows, then part of the intestine can pop through as well, causing a bowel obstruction that is a bit like folding a garden hose and stopping the water. If this happens, it can lead to death of part of the intestine and even death of the patient if not treated quickly.

How long would it take to recover after surgery for inguinal hernia? My dad has been scheduled to undergo repair surgery for inguinal hernia. While the doctors have given us their opinion on how long...

Surgical procedures to repair Hernia these days could be completed in less than an hour or two in cases of inguinal hernia. Just as with any surgical procedure, the body needs time to heal after a hernia surgery. In most cases, patients are allowed to leave the hospital on the same day as the procedure unless there are any unexpected complications. Recovery process is gradual. If your work does not involve much physical exertions, you could be back at work in 10 days or less. But make sure you do it in consultation with your doctor. Gentle exercises are advised as part of the recovery process. But you'd have to be patient until your body fully recovers from the surgery before you decide to start working out or unduly exerting yourself.
