T.v. abruptly shut off tried to turn it back on and it didn't make the usual tones indicating that the set was on instead it made a sickening sound like a dying baby bird. tried unplugging it unhooking all other devices but it still made the same sound. this set is only 2 years old. thank you for your assistance.

Sounds like a regulator problem, possibly the low voltage side of the regulator. Could be the the regulator itself has shorted which in this unit is a STRF6628. If you're trying to attempt repairs yourself take a look at C834 100uf/25v next to the regulator and see if it's possibly open. If so replace it and see if the unit will power-up and let me know..

Check your coaxial cable connection and inspect it wiggle it while the set is on if the problem clears replace the cable. Check to see if the male connector that sticks out the back of the set isint loose to the point where it moves when you touch it. If it does you need to have it looked at by a tech usually this problem can be solved with a little soldering but could get more complicated. Depending on the age of the set the fluid in the CRT's gets old and cloudy and light cant shine through it makeing your picture appear fuzzy. Your local tech should be able to change the oil in your set. Finally you could have some bad filter caps but I doubt it.
I sounds like a bad filter in the sudio supply circuit finally took out the sound output chip or the power supply that controls the sound circuit. its a soliud state set and there are no user replaceable parts inside this set. Unless you have had solid state repair experience, please be safe and call in a pro to assost you in this repair. good Luck
