Question about Compaq Computers & Internet
CQ50-what? you left off the end number?
dont all COMPAQs do that, this old, sure. all do , those that dont are what we call Miracles of the Deity!
first do this with no battery, take out the huge battery that loves to short and overload all LT.
do so, ok , no cure there... if yes, BINGO>?
well it not black screen , is it?, so screen works. Miracle 2.
the NO OS is NO LIE, it told you the truth but means
I cant FIND THE BOOT DRIVE< that is A FACT !
the HDD is dead or windows, dead, no OS STATED BY You. or....
or the coin cell is dead causing the boot device to be WRONG.
no PC this old has good coin cell., replace it.
if the BIOS pages how time and date wrong, COIN BAD.(RTC)
if the BIOS settings keep SCRAMBLING its BAD COIN TIME.
if the beep codes scream bad CMOS memory its COIN TIME.
the coin fails from 5 to 10 years, less if parked in the sun for 3y.
i carbon date this PC at 10 years old 2007 CQ50-100 series
you never posted full model number, so......?????
it has no value used and broken, Id up grade to one 5 years old

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Unfortunately the OS got corrupted and you need to re install the Operating system.
There is no other way to fix the problem but use the recovery disc.
If you dont have a recovery disc you may want to contact the manufacturer of your laptop and order one.
Or if you can use a retail version of Operating system and once finished installing you may need to download the drivers of your laptop on the support site.
Hope this helps.

Error 1005 is an HP restore error which means you need to install from a standard DVD from HP. You can order this from various websites on the internet. They are about $30-$45 plus shipping.

Try another hard drive in the system, sounds like the drive is going bad, then after replacing the hard drive, then go ahead and recover the system. Bad sectors on a hard drive can make it where it won't restore.
If you can get your hands on a windows boot disk, then you can try to format the hard drive, wiping it out and installing it can fix that problem as well.
