Murrym19546 riding mower want move why?

I would believe the mower is ran off a belt and the belt has stretched to the point and needs replacement. Raise the mower up and look under it and see if the drive belt is sloppy or loose.

My riding lawn mower wont move when in gear the brake doesnt work either

have you checked the main drive belt or the gearbox drive belt? Most mowers built by MTD have a main drive belt that is run from the motor pulley to the rear end, then a shorter belt actually drives the gearbox. Mine is a Cub Cadet and you can usually get to the back belt by removing the battery and battery box. By using a piece of water pipe about 3 ft long you can move the spring loaded pulley and reattach the belt. MTD builds a large majority of the riders up to 25 hp. Ex. John Deere, Cub Cadet, Troybilt and many of the store brand riders. my Cub Cadet sometimes has a drive linkage pin to fall out and instead of stopping it goes faster. you didn't give the brand name of your mower so that would help.

Blades won't disengage.

If this is a riding mower, then check the cable tension around the belt. I have a craftsman and when I take the deck off for the winter, there is cable under there that controls the blades from going. You can follow the cable down to the blades it usually is under the hood. When you are on the bottom have someone control the lever and see if it tightens and loosens the belt (do not have the mower running!). A axel should move to tighten the belt to turn the blades and when you pull the lever to stop the blades the axel should move to loosen the belt. Hope this helps. Oh from there the cable could be snapped, which is a 35 to 65 dollar part. Also could be the axel itself has something faulty where it doesn't move.

New mower, purchased May 2011. The self-propel drive has stopped working. I have looked at it but cannot see anything loose or ????

Look on top of your mower as well as underneath your mower. Check the belt for excessive wear. Check to see if anything came loose. Move up to the area that engages the drive assembly. Is the cable if so equipped loose or disconnected , is there a spring missing, or is the cable jammed so that it doesn't engage the drive unit. Check up to the handle, possibly the cable broke, or has disconnected in some way. Just because something is new this doesn't mean it can't break, or get thrown out of kilter. You will find your problem. GOOD LUCK.

I have a Swisher 2460 ZTR. When the dirve belt is attached the starter cannot turn the motor shaft enough to start the machine. I saw an earlier post where you instructed the person to check the bearings...

If the left side pulley is free of any belts, it should move as freely as the right side pulley. You will need to replace the bearings in the left pulley and all should be well.

I have an early-2000s Troy Bilt Bronco, 42 inch deck, 18hp Briggs Inotek engine, hydrostatic drive. It broke or threw a drive belt (not for the mower deck, but a transmission belt). How to you go about...

While mowing the yard, the mower went dead. I tried to recrank it and it won't crank. The gas pedal goes straight to the floor and doesn't work to crank the mower. I do not know anything about mowers and don't know where the problem could be. Can someone help?
