The screw that holds the needle in place also has a slot where a screwdriver can be used to apply extra pressure.

If you are not able to free this easily, you really should consider taking it to a service technician to look at it in case you do more damage to the needle bar and elsewhere trying to fix it yourself.

SOURCE: can't get needle stay in the clamp ?

On the 237 there should be a very small piece of round metal that fits into the needle clamp so when it tightens it keeps the needle in the correct position, you may have lost that small piece of metal.

Machine fails to operate

Ooh, do not turn the handwheel in reverse...

First, make sure your machine has not been set to wind a bobbin. When that is the case, the needle is immobilized during bobbin winding so that you do not accidentally sew over your hand or something else. (Consult page 18 of the owner's manual.)

The machine is less than a month old. If there is something seriously wrong, contact the manufacturer. I should still be under warranty.

try changing the needle
rethread the top thread-- Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of your sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
Place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back, (round needle, the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft).
Push the needle all the way up as far as it will go. Then tighten the needle clamp screw.
also check the bobbin to make sure that it's threaded correctly
& inserted correctly into the bobbin case

How do I change needle

on the needle bar, there is a needle clamp screw, undo the the needle clamp screw & take out the needle, & place the new needle in correctly, if the eye of the needle faces you, then it must be put back in the same way,& pushed up as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw back

I am sewing stretch jersey and my needle keeps breaking with a terrible noise - I have a singer 2250? any ideas?

you need to use a stabilizer because the needle is pushing the material into the bobbin shaft and jamming it. Clean it out and oil your machine. Insert a new needle and totally rethread.

My Singer Athena 09 drops the needle when ever the material is heavy. It usually doesn't break it just comes out of the part held by the screw. I need to buy stock in singer needles, as this happens way...

it sounds like the needle clamp screw is not tight enough or is stripped out
some needle clamp screws have a **** where you can put a flat screw driver in to tighten & if that doesn't work then you need to check on getting a new needle clamp screw

Bobbin knotting & jamming on Singer 2250

Put the tensions back to the factory setting.

Re-thread the machine with the presser foot up and make sure the bobbin thread is feeding from the bobbin in the correct direction and through the proper guides.

Change the needle to one that is new and appropriate for the type of sewing that is being done.

If problem continues take the machine back for assistance if you purchased it from a sewing machine dealer. They usually do not take "returns".

Or, back to the store that it was purchased from if not from a dealer. You may have a limited time in which it can be returned.

Changing the needle

Loosen both screws and wiggle the needles out. change the new needle As a rule of thumb, the flat side of the needle always goes towards the opposite side of the last thread guide. So on your machine, since the last thread guide is in the front of the needle bar, the flat side of your needle goes toward the rear. The needle threads front to back.
