It sounds like you have smoked the audio amplifier. It is an 8 pin IC marked "IC2" on the circuit board where it is mounted. You may also be able to see "TBA820M" stamped on the case of the IC itself. Since you said that smoke was visible from the speaker jack, it will likely be obvious which component it is once you open the scanner.
Unfortunately this scanner has no internal or external fuses.
If this does not work, go to www.mods.dk, as they have a downloadable schematic and troubleshooting manual for this model. The site does require a free registration, but does not spam or sell your address. I have downloaded several manuals from them over the years, and all were extremely helpful.

With your description, seems to me like the audio amp or associated parts are "fried" Hard fix on this as it may very well cost more than it is worth. Unless it is a keepsake..... Let me know via email.... firstname.lastname@example.org

Why not go to the Uniden website for information. You may be able to download a copy of the manual for your scanner or get some basic information regarding programming
