SOURCE: Do I have to use ethanol free gasoline?

It had better do so--or any saw brand that fails to run on ethanol blended fuels will see sales fall rapidly in the USA. We, personally, own one of these same saws which (when new) ran great for about 3 days, then refused to start. A trip to the warranty repair station got us a new ignition module. After return, it ran for about two days, then would not start again. The warranty repair then installed a replacement carburetor and about a year later, still seems to be working fine--it's a great hard working saw when it operates correctly. Good luck!

What kind of gas should I use in my 1981 yamaha 400 special?

You should be able to use unleaded but do not use ethanol treated gas. If you are unable to get ethanol free gas, then look at getting an ethanol treatment for your bike. Ethanol will play havoc with your entire fuel system gaskets and rubber hoses.

Always use ethanol fuel in everything you can. If you can't find ethanol fuel then buy StarTron fuel additive and use that to help with the ethanol issues

It might be your fuel cap vent needs replacement. FYI: Ethanol in gas should be no more then 10%. Small engines need 10% or less if possible. Ethanol also corrodes rubber and cylinder parts very quickly. In cars it's OK to use but not small engines like gardening, generators etc. Also, Ethanol is bad on mileage performance because it doesn't burn well. In my area, mostly Chevron, Shell, Mobile gas are more near the 10% mark. You can always go in the station or have them show you the chemical mix on there last fill up! The lower the ethanol % the better your gas mileage by maybe 10%.

HERE IS SOME INFO FOR YOU THAT MIGHT BE HANDY.. IT'S THE SAME THING I HAVE BEE SAYING FOR YEARS ..
I think your problem is not so much the fault of Tecumseh but rather the result of having ethanol gas left in the tank and carburetor for more than a few weeks. Any Tecumseh engines I've had started and ran flawlessly until ethanol gas came along. Now any engines including Briggs & Stratton and Honda have developed starting and running problems when left for any period of time with ethanol gas in the tanks.

I would recommend going through your carburetor again and spray or soak the parts with CLR and rinse with clear water. Blow dry with compressed air through all passages. Then follow up with a good carb cleaner like "Carb Medic".

HOW TO STOP HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS IS TO USE MARINE GAS IT HAS NO ETHANOL AND IT WILL PREFORM BETTER ! IT IS COSTLY BUT ITS WORTH IT !! JAY THE POOL PUMP GUY FLORIDA

I have an old makita g2700 generator with a robin ey25 engine.i need to change the oil.what grade of oil is recommended please

    Hi Tim,
That engine's original production started out in 1987 by Teledyne and then taken over by Robin Subaru. Replacing your oil depends upon your climate, here's a list Below 14 degrees F 10w30 14-68 degrees F SAE #20 68-104 degrees F SAE #30A complete fill requires 28.7 OZ of oil according to the service manual. If the engine is burning a lot of, oil I would suggest that you jump up a rating on the oil. For example if you are in Florida and it's 95 degrees outside I would useSAE #40. If the engine is still within its tolerance and not consuming oil I would stick with the factory recommendations. On a further note,This is a fairly old generator and was designed to run on straight gas, NO ETHANOL!!!! Today's gas has at least 10% and it will wreak havoc on your fuel system. Ethanol will absorb water from the moisture in the air, It bonds with the water and sinks to the bottom of the tank. Gas with ethanol has a shelf life of about 30 days. Ethanol will also act as a solvent on the fuel line, creating a gum on the inside of the line and make the line very brittle. The gum will eventually migrate into the carburetor and foul it. I would strongly suggest that you replace the fuel line with Tygon or any other ethanol safe material, I would also swap out the fuel filter or add an inline one. Do not store the generator full of fuel, store it empty. Check out the website pure-gas.org to see if ethanol free gas is available in your area. It will last much longer especially with a little bit of Stabil in it. Good Luck,Michael Burke

What octain fuel should I be burning in a Suziki 800 Valusia

Most small engines, bikes and boats, recommend high test, just a little insurance against bad gas, now days you can find gas without ethanol, it might be 20 or 30 cents more, sometimes more, but it is worth it. The ethanol eats rubber like crazy, all your new flex fuel cars have fancy rubber in them, (the only difference), they say that if they sold e85 in your town you would buy, I believe it. I run high test in my bike all the time, and just lately been using ethanol free marine fuel. I haven't noticed any difference in performance. Hope this helps.

We are having trouble with our pt cruiiser.. it will turn over and not hit a lick... we have checked fuses, checked for fire from distributor cap, and we have sprayed ethanol in carbarator and it will not...

You say you have used ethanol. I don't know if you also putit in the gas tank as well as the carb. However, regular of the shelf ethanol from a paint store is not the ethanol to use. hat ethanol is hydrated, ( has water in it ). You need to use anhydrous ethanol or gaslineanti freeze. asfar as what to put down the carb, you should be using quick start. ( Tha is ether and is very flamable!!!! ) only spray that while turning the engine over. To check what that clear fluid is in the tank somehow take a sample of it and try to disolve table salt in it. If is it oil the salt will not disolve. If it is wate it will. Please don't just put the salt anywhere near the carb. or the gas tank.

I suspect it is water because oil and gas mix. water and gas do not. The anhyrous ethanol in the tank will adsorb the residual water and mix with the gas and burn off in the cylinders.

    Good Luck!

Not running properly, inconsistant ,revs up and down, and no range.

Could be the fuel - especially if it's been stored for awhile. LOTS of problems with Ethanol now, especially if you have a vented gas tank. The ethanol actually draws water (humidity) through the vent and into the tank... then the water and the ethanol settle to the bottom of the tank with the gas on top. Of course, your fuel pump draws fuel from the bottom of the tank. I use StarTron Enzyme Fuel Treatment, which seems to help.
