Sounds like you need to take the carb. apart and clean it. I like to use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning teeth), to clean the small ports in carb. they work great for this job. Make sure to either clean or replace the small screen in thcarb. as well.

Both my Echo line trimmer and Stihl hand held blower. No fuel in the bulb on both, I suspect bad fuel. If so, how do I fix?

Check INSIDE the fuel tank. It is possible the fuel line inside the tank has deteriorated and the filter broke off. That would cause fuel line to FLOAT in the tank instead of lie on the bottom. This could easily be the cause of no fuel in primer/purge bulb. You probably need to:

Install new fuel filter..........Install new fuel Lines.......Install new primer bulb........Clean carburetor.

So in some respects, you are probably correct....no fuel filter equals bad fuel entering carb (but if none in bulb, doubtful much fuel (dried up maybe ) in carb.

Gas line's mixed up on weed eater XT30D

Hi nrosevear..

Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.
The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.

Troy-Bilt TB425CS Grass Trimmer. The purge/primer bulb does not pull fuel from the fuel tank.... There is no visible fuel in primer bulb when the bulb is pushed.

You may have a fuel line, fuel filter problem. I recommend inspecting and/or replacing old fuel lines as they get old, brittle, flaky, and develop pin hole leaks in the fuel tank and around the carburetor fittings. If you choose not to replace them, problems will surface down the road. Sometimes the check valves in the carburetor that open and close to keep the fuel moving in the proper direction malfunction. They can sometimes be cleared with a lubricant such as WD-40 but real strong solvent tends to ruin them. A primer bulb on the carburetor is easier to service as you can remove the primer bulb base assembly (mounts on carburetor with screws) and spray WD 40 liberally into the pump area. A remote bulb is a little trickier, as you have to either inject the lubricant spray into the fuel lines and attempt to get the bulb to draw it to the carb to free check valves inside. This is if you don't want to remove the lines and service the carburetor. Also, a new bulb may be needed. Thet deteriorate the way the fuel lines do. They are rather inexpensive and you can get kits that include the new fuel lines, filter and bulb all together. Some of these parts are available in the garden center at Home Depot and many are on Ebay. Post back if further instructions are needed.

Troy bilt tb70ss replaced fuel lines trimmer turns on but does not stay on what is the proper configuration for the fuel lines/

The small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects directly to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then "pushes" any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Again, on the primer bulb, the longer nipple has a line going directly from it to the tank. This is the return line. The shorter nipple on the bub has a line from it going to the metering chamber side of the carb. If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. The larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where sometimes the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. Otherwise, the line should enter the tank for about 1/2" or so.

Fuel line schematic

This is an ongoing issue for users, and rightfully so. Small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then pushes any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Years ago on 2-stroke trimmers, primers were not even used,...you choked the carb with a slide lever and gravity let fuel enter the carb from above...a few pulls, a "pop"...slide it off of choke and away you went.
If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.

Troybilt TB90BC fuel line schematic? I have replaced fuel lines that degraded with age and am uncerttain about the correct hook to tank, carburetor and primer. A diagram would help

easiest way to tell you is that the primer is there to pull the fuel through the carb. so fuel filter line goes from tank to carb, then from carb to primer and then back to tank as a return. if you forget which is the in line for the carb just hook with gas in a jar and try sucking it out of the jar. put filte rin a jar. and run line to carb , then line out of carb to primer and line back to jar as a return. if it pulls freely and fills the primer bulb your ready to go. if it pulls hard or not at all something is wrong.

Need diagram for fuel line in tank fuel filter

The small diameter fuel line that has the fuel filter in the tank on it goes directly to the carburetor (with the built-in primer or externally mounted primer). IF the carb has the external primer, the small line goes to the nipple on the carburetor opposite the end with the hole in the cover. If it has the built-in primer on it, it goes to the carb body on the nipple furthest from the bulb. The large diameter line is the fuel return line and if the carb has the bulb on it, this line connects on the nipple closest to primer bulb.. With the externally mounted primer, this line connects on the longest nipple coming out of the primer and goes to the fuel tank (not the filter though). There is a nylon connector inside the tank that holds this larger line in place. The shorter nipple on primer bulb has a smaller diameter fuel line connected to it and connects to the nipple on the carb closest to the end with the hole in the cover. Built in primer has 2 fuel lines...externally mounted has 3.

Troy-Bilt weed eater, Model TB90BC, had rotten fuel lines and primer bulb, I replaced but may have hooked them up wrong. How do I hook them up?

Prime and watch the fuel move up to the carb. This is the fuel line and it should be long. Make sure it goes to the bottom of the fuel tank.
