How do I get rid of of black dirt that is coming out of steam holes?

it is corrosion build up in the iron
you can try a quality steam iron cleaner but that process is generally short lived and the problem will return
The normal fix is a new iron and using only demineralized water-- not tap water

My Iron heats up but no steam comes out and no noise please help !! Russell Hobbs steam 2200

If the water used is hard it will build up with shale, and block the steam vents, best to flush with clean water after every second use . Best to take to the dealer and have it serviced .

What could be stopping the water in the holding tank not going in the steam tank on my Perfect Care Iron ?

most likely is mineral build up. drain out the water and replace with white vinegar, warm up the iron and allow it to sit until you see steam (several minutes to half an hour) if no steam, replace the iron.

Philips steam iron no steam and red tap light is flashing even when filled up with water it's still getting hot and water is boiling but steam fiction not working as red light will not go out

It sounds like the flow holes are CLOGGED with scale inside. To clean it out:

1. Drain the water/steam out the pour-in shoot at the top of the handle, over the sink. Is any crap coming out?

2. Take some VINEGAR and pour it straight into the fill pour-in shoot. Don\'t dilute it. Fill up the IRON to full line. Let the vinegar SOAK the inside of the COLD iron for 15-20 minutes, by placing it FACE DOWN on an old bath towel, on a heat-resistant surface, such as a granite counter top, or metal cookie sheet. Don\'t put the towel on the ironing board!!! It may get stained badly. Let it sit, COLD for 20 minutes. You can swirell the vinegar around by shaking the iron.

Stand it up on its flat end, with the vinegar inside, still. Take some fresh vinegar and dip Q-tips into the vinegar and clean the slots and holes on the bottom plate. Any burn streaks or soil can be removed with wiping the plate with vinegar. After you clean all the holes and slots with vinegar from the outside, TURN ON THE IRON with the vinegar inside. The vinegar will heat up and should come out the holes. If any holes are not blowing vinegar/steam, clean them with q-tips again. Don\'t let all of the vinegar inside steam out!! Just heat it enough to make sure all of the holes are clean. Some white film may come out of the holes on to the face plate--it is calcium build-up from using tap water in the iron.

Now DUMP out vinegar inside the iron and reservoir through the pour-shoot You may see crud and crap coming out. Repeat the process of filling it up, steaming through the holes etc. until the vinegar comes out clear!!!

DON\'T use tap water in any IRON. Use distilled water, or even bottled drinking water (without flavoring, additives, of course). This will prevent corrosion and calcium build up in the iron.

ALWAYS completely drain the iron from the pour-in spout each time you are finished using it!! After pouring out the tank\'s water, you can set the iron to STEAM HIGH, and force any water inside to boil off and out of iron.! Never keep water in the reservoir or iron.

I set my iron, when hot, and done using it, with the pointed side DOWN in the sink drain to make sure it is dry.

So clean it with vinegar often, use bottled drinking water or better, distilled water and it will prevent this.

I have a Rowenta steam iron and it has been leaking, not steaming properly. also, I have been using tap water. How can I clean it? Can I use the products designed for dishwashers, like "Glisten" to rid...

the loss of steam is from usually from a barrier or o-ring or some sort of insulating material it has to be sealed because if it is not the the steam will not build up the pressure required for adequate cleaning power, try to seal up where the water is coming from, and yes you should be able to use something to get rid of the build up just make sure you rinse it all out so it wont mess anythng up and tap water is fine you will just get that build up from it cause of the chlorine and other products in tap hope this was helpful:)

STEAM ONLY COMING OUT OF TOP HOLES SWAN S15040

The iron is probably clogged up from mineral deposits in the water. Fill the iron with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar. Heat the iron and let it set for awhile. Then steam the solution through the iron. Repeat the process if this does not work. If the Vinegar and water does not work, then try a product such as Lime Away or CLR to remove the deposits. After the iron is cleaned out, try using distilled bottled water in the iron, to reduce the mineral build up.
Hope this helps you!

Is there a product to run through a rowenta pro garment steamer to eliminate build-up?

To start with, use distilled water for steaming. This will prevent calcium build-up. I buy bottles of distilled water for ironing/steaming only. I have never had calcium build-up from using distilled water for ironing/steaming. Do not use tap water!!!

You can buy some CLR (stands for Cacium, Lime & Rust) (can be found at Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart, etc.). You can run this product through your steamer to eliminate build-up.

Good luck!
