NO - That is an antibiotic. All that will do is prevent infection in the lesions. Your best bet for those is calamine lotion. I've had shingles on my forehead. I would recommend:

1. Go to an Ophthalmologist TOMORROW. You are at great risk for PERMANENT EYE DAMAGE.
2. Ask him for an Anti-Viral medication to slow the progress and reduce the symptoms of the shingles.
3. Ask him for some pain medication. If you're not experiencing extreme pain yet, you may.

Don't mess around with this - it's serious, not to mention painful. And don't go back to the doc that gave you a antibiotic for Shingles.

What effect does shingles have on face and eye on a 10 year old, and can immunisation be offered or does that become part of the healing process

highly contagious!

How Is It Treated?

Antiviral medications can make a shingles flare-up heal faster and reduce the chances of having complications. Not everyone needs to take antiviral medicines, though - your doctor will prescribe them if necessary. If you do need to take them, the earlier you start, the more effective they will be.
Antiviral medicines can't eliminate the virus from the body completely, so they won't stop someone from having future flare-ups.
To ease any pain that might come with shingles, doctors or nurse practitioners may prescribe a cream, spray, or skin patch to numb the skin. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications also can help treat pain. Don't take aspirin, though. It can put teens at risk of a rare but serious illness called Reye syndrome.
If you have shingles that itch, your doctor may recommend lotions or medicines called antihistamines.
Keep the rash area clean by washing with water and a mild soap. Apply cool, wet compresses to the blisters several times a day to reduce the pain and itching. Oatmeal baths also can bring relief.

Can I Prevent Shingles?

It's not possible to prevent shingles entirely. The chickenpox vaccine can make a case of shingles less serious. So if you haven't had chickenpox, it's not too late to ask your doctor about getting the chickenpox vaccine.
There is a vaccine against shingles, but doctors usually only give it to older adults. That's partly because the older someone is, the more severe shingles can be. As a teen, you're unlikely to be seriously affected by shingles.
If you get shingles, you can help keep the virus from spreading by keeping the rash covered at all times and getting treatment if you need it.
People with shingles can spread it pretty easily. Until their rash is completely healed, they need to stay away from newborn babies, pregnant women, anyone with a weakened immune system, or anyone who is not vaccinated against chickenpox. So teens who get shingles may need to stay home from school for a while. It all depends on the person and the situation. Your doctor will give you advice.
Shingles may sound scary, but that's mainly because of how it affects older people. The good news is that the infection doesn't usually happen to teens. And, even when teens do get shingles, it's usually not serious.

Codes for layers of shingles

If im understanding correctly you are saying that there are 4 layers asphalt and 1 wood? If thats the case it doesn't matter where you live I can tell you that is not code. The absolute most I have ever seen is three comp and 1 wood. That is a lot of weight on your roof. If you live where you will see snow this year I'd have that looked at for safety reasons.

Surface area =300 square feet 25 year old ash

Ash fault? I think you mean "asphalt" but that's OK. You haven't given enough information to solve the problem, but here's what you need to do.

You know the area of the roof is 300 square feet (sq ft). You should know the area of each asphalt shingle, although that's the information you didn't give. When you know that figure, the calculation is very simple:

number of shingles needed = area of roof / area of one shingle

I don't know if this is a class problem, or if you really have a roofing job. Don't forget that on a real roof, the shingles overlap. If you do the calculation, the number you get is right only if you lay the shingles edge-to-edge. A real-world roof would need probably twice that number. Shingles come packed in bundles, and they usually tell you the area they cover. (By the way, 100 square feet is termed a "square".)

I HAVE SHINGLES VERY PAINFUL, WHAT MUST I TAKE

  • Overview Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, is a secondary condition of infection with the varicella zoster virus (VZV), a virus of the family herpesviridae that also causes chickenpox. Because shingles is a herpetic viral condition, antivirals are the backbone of treatment, although the sometimes severe nature of symptoms and the potential for lasting negative effects means that other symptoms must be managed while the infection is active. There is no cure for shingles or any other herpetic condition, but there are effective treatments and shingles often clears up without further complications.
  • Antivirals Antiviral drug therapy administered as soon as possible after the appearance of shingles rash (within 72 hours according to the Mayo Clinic) is one of the most important elements of treatment for herpes zoster and is the sole component that actually targets the cause of symptoms (vs. managing them). The same drugs used in treating other conditions caused by herpes viruses are used in the treatment of shingles: acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir. Valacyclovir and famciclovir deliver their active ingredients more effectively than acyclovir and can be taken less often than acyclovir.
  • Corticosteroids Corticosteroids like prednisone are also used in the treatment of shingles. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommends a high initial dosage for several days which is slowly decreased over time. The AAFP reports that cortisone in combination with antiviral therapy reduces the pain associated with shingles. Prednisone may also decrease the chances of developing postherpetic neuralgia, a condition of severe and chronic pain that persists after the shingles rash has cleared up.
  • Pain Relief The AAFP recommends standard pain killers for shingles sufferers whose pain is not too severe, while reporting that narcotic analgesics may be necessary for severe pain sufferers. Other pain management techniques include the application of topical creams (calamine, capsaicin and lidocaine) and nerve blockers.
  • Postherpetic Neuralgia The Mayo Clinic reports that tricyclic antidepressants and anticonvulsant medications, along with capsaicin and lidocaine, are sometimes used to treat pain when it does not clear up along with the shingles rash (postherpetic neuralgia). D. Bowsher of the Pain Research Institute at Walton Hospital reports that traditional analgesics are not effective in managing the pain of postherpetic neuralgia and that the use of opioid may be necessary.
  • Other Treatments Bowsher recommends relaxation techniques alongside other treatments for postherpetic neuralgia. The Mayo Clinic recommends further techniques like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), which may stimulate natural painkillers to be produced in the body, and a similar technique performed on the spinal cord or on peripheral nerves.

How long does it take to find out if you have caught herpies shingles virus i work as a carer and one of my clients were diagnosed with it today

You can't catch shingles from someone else who has shingles. But a person with a shingles rash can spread chickenpox to another person who hasn't had chickenpox and who hasn't gotten the chickenpox vaccine.

If you haven't had the chickenpox and become infected, you will most likely see symptoms with 7-10 days.
