i gather when you meen rebooted its into windows xp? or while its booting. if its the first one, windows only recognises up to 3 gig of mem, if it is when you are post booting, how much shared mem has your graphics card got? it might seem that you only have 3 gig on start up, but you have to allow for the memory use from the graphics card, hope this throws some light onto your problem

SOURCE: Ram Installation more than
Probably your Operating System is a 32bit. 32bit OS can only read up to 3GB of RAM regardless of the capacity of RAM you install. For example you installed 2pcs of 2GB RAM, that makes it 4GB in total, 32bit OS will only recognize 3GB. upgrade your OS to a 64bit OS and you can upgrade your RAM up to 8GB depending on how much your motherboard can handle.

The system probably uses some of the ram for the onboard video/on board sound...also known as shared memory. If you go to the BIOS setup..you should be able to see what the total memory is and what shares this memory

SOURCE: Why is my phone showing
There is nothing wrong with your phone. It shows that currently you are using a 2G (Second Generation) Network service on your phone. You will get a 4G symbol on your phone only when your network supports 4th Generation LTE ( Long Term Evolution )Technology which can provide speeds up to 21 Mbps HSDPA.Network giants like Verizon, T Mobile, AT&T..etc are currently providing 4G Network Services across the world.Hope you are satisfied with my solution. Please leave me a reply if you need further assistance.Your valuable feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for choosing Fixya.
