Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Bernina 440 qe is not stitching properly. It stitches a few stitches and locks up and will not move forward. Why is this happening?

I am trying to sew a border on a quilt and it keeps locking up. The stitch length is 2.40 and I am using a normal straight stitch. The locking stitch is not on.

Bernina 830: When making a buttonhole... the zigzag #1 stitch on left side looks nice... then the #2 bottom bar tack looks good...

Please tell us which Bernina 830 you have--old mechanical Record or new computerized?

Here's a recommendation from a Bernina owner (Ellen Rosenthal on Yahoo Group "BonosBerninas":
I agree about the buttonholer. The reverse stitching never looks as good as the left or forward side. I “hack” this by pivoting my fabric and only
going forward-avoiding the reverse stitch. Also helps to do the whole process twice and to use some tear away or wash away interfacing.

There is another Yahoo group called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that is a great resource.

My needle is also out of it s center position. I have had it repaired before. But it has once again done this. Why does this happen? It is a Bernina 580.

Do you change your stitching often some stitching needle needs to move sideways backward and forwards this could be why make sure you are on the right stitch.

How do I set 8900 for free motion quilting? D4S mode and QB-S foot

To do free motion quilting on most machines, install a darning foot or free motion quilting foot, drop the feed dogs, set the machine to straight stitch. (Because FMQ requires you to manually maneuver the fabric, stitch length is moot.) If your machine has the feature, setting it to Needle Down will also help. When you stop sewing, the needle will stop while penetrating the fabric. This prevents you from accidentally moving the fabric while trying to adjust before sewing again.

What is the proper quilting stitch for FMQ

Straight stitch. Doesn't matter what stitch length you set. The stitch length is determined by how fast or slow you move the fabric in conjunction with the sewing speed of the machine. FMQ means that you manually move the fabric, so the feed dogs are disabled and a darning or FMQ presser foot is installed on the machine. The darning or FMQ presser feet have shorter shafts than other feet, which allows space for you to manipulate the fabric.

The jagged teeth on sewing plate are not moving to move the material forward. U will have to look under the machine to check out the mechanism that is supposed to move them and find the part that is the cause of no transmission of power to the teeth assembly.

I have a bernina 440 QE and am considering trading it in and would like to know what it is worth.

Likely 1/2 of purchase price it will also depend on hrs and stitch count. You may have to get your dealer to help you determine this from service mode
