D3 Rainbow Vacuum separator problem

I have an older Rainbow d3 series vacuum. One day while running, the hose sucked onto something and I heard a pop. On checking I found that the separator had broken. I replaced it with a new one. When I started the vacuum it ran great for about 3 mins. until I again heard a pop. The separator had broken again. Any idea what could be causing this and what to do to fix it?

Chances are the motor died or went bad.
You would have to get a new motor.
You can find one here:

How to get to the rainbow SE vacuum off/on switch.

Hi, here is a walkthrough on how to get to that part here. Steps 1 - 14 on how to access it, you will need to take apart the housing to get at it. If you need a new switch you can find that here. Rainbow did redesign this switch, so you will need to look at the wiring diagram if you are installing a new switch. Technician

Power cord leaks green oil

I suggest that you replace that corroding internally power cord. It may not be safe to use that power cord.

You can get your model information, at the bottom of your vacuum canister, from underneeth, where the water pan attaches to it.

It is probably a D3, or a D4

Not working properly

Most of Rainbows water tank have a peg or a water fill line and should not be more then indicated. The separator should keep water out of the motor. Other then that you will need to have it checked.

Remove suction motor on rainbow vacuum

Take off the water tank, remove the screw, should be four, that will separate the 2 pieces, remove the rubber seal, remove the screws, 8 If I remember, disconnect the wires to the motor, it should pull out. Replace motor, hook up the wires, screw it back together, glue the water seal back on.

Rainbow e series

It could if the separator is binding, or dragging, when it turns, causing the motor to over heat, that maybe what you are smelling. If it is, then replace the separator.
